5 and a half month old can’t sleep

Hi there, looking for advice! My 5.5 month old is generally a happy and content baby but has NO capacity to fall asleep on her own, and sometimes struggles when being rocked and fed.

She has been waking up crying 7-9 times each night for about 6 weeks now and my husband and I are at the end of what we can endure. She wakes crying and will usually fall asleep again quite quickly if I pick her up and walk around with her, but I then have to wait holding her asleep for about 20 mins before I can get her back into her cot. She seems angry, sometimes throws her head back and kicks her feet, it feels like she wants to be asleep but just doesn’t know how to do it.

Day naps are almost exclusively pram naps, so I’m awake most of the night and walking for hours each day and it’s too exhausting.

I feel like our only option now is to sleep train her, but I am really anxious about it. If we leave her to cry, she will get very very irate, and I’m just worried we will put her through it and it won’t work. Can babies be too irate to sleep train? I’m terrified to do any harm to her, but also can’t go on with less than 5 hours sleep each night.

Any thoughts?
