Hello, have posted variously on mn about my dd2 who has always been a little screamy **er in the nicest possible way She's a little calmer now but still very demanding and I think a lot of it is down to her lack of naps. DD1 was in a GF routine (don't shoot me, please!) and stuck to it without many problems but dd2 is all over the place, up around 6 - 6.30, down for a nap around 9 when she's getting shouty and exhausted, but it usually only lasts about 20 minutes. Then at about 11 she nods off for another 20 mins or so in the buggy and then sleeps maybe another 20-40 mins from 1-1.30. I try to put her down between 4.30 and 5 to give her the energy for supper and bath and she goes to sleep at 7.
She is so ratty and I really think it's because she doesn't sleep long enough in the day but I am all over the place trying to put her down at different times and still never getting more than a catnap. Please no routine bashers, she obviously needs some kind of structure but we're floundering to find it. Any kind suggestions from other parents of 10mos or thereabouts very welcome. Thank you!

Hi Mrs Shackleton, I have a 10 month old DS and his day usually goes like this:
6.30- up, milk
8ish- breakfast
9.30 - sleep for 45mins/hour
snack and milk when he gets up
12.00 - lunch
1.30 -sleep for 45 mins/hour
3.30 -milk, snack
5pm - dinner
6pm -bath
6.30/7pm bed

Just reading that it sounds like he spends his whole day eating

my 10 mo has just fallen into a routine and he always sticks to it:

7:00 up and milk
8:00 brekkie
9:30 Nap ( 1 and half hours)
11:30 Lunch
14:00 Milk and Nap (1 and a half)
17:30 Dinner
20:00 Bed

Nap time varies but that would be the average.
If my DS didn't nap I don't think either of us would be able to cope, I'm sure if you get her to have naps at around 9ish and 1-2ish she'll be fine.

Lots of luckX

Oh thank you, that's so useful to see - her two top teeth are coming through right now so I think that's making her extra grumpy and anti-nap. Oddly, today she napped from 1-3pm, having just posted this wail of despair. The power of mumsnet? xx
