1.5 year old won’t go down to sleep help

So my 1.5 year old has been so good for sleeping up until now. He literally slept through the night from 8 weeks old and would go down without any bother.

he recently had his first antibiotic as he had a throat infection and since then he hasn’t been sleeping great. I don’t know is it from that or is he going through some growth but omg it’s difficult.

We put him into his cot and he’s hysterical but will happily rest his head on us when we take him out of the cot for a cuddle to let him know it’s ok but the second he’s put back in he’s crying again!

he woke at 5:30 this morning after eventually going down at 9:45 last night (which he normally went down no problem at 7:30)

I was trying to get him to sleep for his nap and let him fall asleep on me in our living room. Once he nodded off I got up to put him in the cot and again screaming!
I actually left the room and let him cry for about 2 minutes and he did fall asleep.

We have also noticed that his behaviour has started to change, he’s starting to have little tantrums and slap and hit us if he doesn’t get his way.

any advice??

Has the throat infection definitely cleared up? It sounds like he is in pain and trying to get to sleep is just difficult. I would try and see the GP and get ears nose throat and lungs all checked. My dc were buggers for symptom-less ear infections that made it really difficult for them to sleep and cleared up magically with a course of amoxcillin

If he's been unwell he may still be in pain and wanting to be held/close to you for comfort.

@SeaToSki Thanks for the reply, he was actually on a course of Amoxicillin that was another deal trying to get it into him 😂 he was like a fella being tortured. Ya I think he could be w combination of being sick and teething and maybe his age. It’s just so not like him. He’s in good enough form most of the day to be fair. But yes maybe a trip to the doctor again might be worth it thanks

@Sunshineclouds11 yes that could be it. He does have a runny nose since being sick and a touch of a cough still so I guess a trip to the doctors is on the card. Thank you for the reply. He’s the first baby so it’s all a learning curve

Mines the same it's driving me mad! Sick of her being ill it really affects her sleep.

If it was a struggle to get the antibs into him, he might not have had enough to clear it. Also he might have a strain the amoxicillin doesn't touch, def time to go back to the GP
