and he didnt fall out, he didnt cry for his cot back, he didnt wake up yelling in the night, he didnt suffocate or strangle himself with the duvet, he didnt try to climb over the stairgate.

i'm in shock. thought it would be a nightmare.

tell me i've got it cracked and he will sleep like an angel forever more...!

or tell me your horror stories so im prepared for tonight !

how old is he?
we moved our ds into a bed at 2
he was fine at first, then went through a stage of gettng out and coming downstairs but we nipped it in the bud by doing the no eye contact thing and putting him straight back to bed so he soon got bored
well done

he's 2+7 (er.. yes I was a bit slack about it!). how long before he started coming downstairs?

we are trying our ds in a bed tonight for the first time - what I'm most stressed about is that he will drop his pm naps - tends to sleep for about 3 hours in the afternoon then go to bed happily in the evening so clearly still needs the sleep. does you ds still nap? will we lose it and have to put up with and overtired grumpy boy? apologies for hijack

mankymummy · 23/03/2008 19:24

my DS still naps, he's always loved his nap and like yours is grumpy if he doesnt have it.

just make sure you keep the same routine as before re. his naps (only difference being he'll be in his new bed) and everything should be fine.

good luck. let us know how it went !

how old is your DS by the way?

well done. I posted the same last week and ds still is being an angel in his big boy bed. WE've had 10 nights so far and he only got out of bed twice on day one and not since. He's nearly 2

Tonight is the night for us - ds is now tucked in (hopefully still...) in his big boy bed for the first time.

Am also worried about naps, falling out etc!
Wish us luck!

Took DS 6 months to realise that he could get out then we had the coming downstairs bit. Like posieflump, we did no eye contact or talking but carried him back to bed (repeatedly!!) It lasted about a week before he got bored.

He dropped his formal nap at 2 and a half but was fine with it; instead, when he is tired I give him a blanket and a cup of milk in front of the telly and he generally drops off.

abigaillockhart · 27/03/2008 20:36

He's nearly 4 now btw. Had a 2 hour nap this afternoon for the first time in a few days but still went to bed fine at 7 - asleep by 20 past.

Napped totally fine today, last night was a little interrupted - he went to sleep ok but fell out of bed once in the night!
Hopefully tonight he will stay a bit closer to the wall!

llareggub · 28/03/2008 20:41

I've been wondering if it is time to do this. My DS (17 mo) got his arm stuck last night and was very upset about it.

shelleylou · 28/03/2008 20:47

my ds is 16 months and been in a bed for nearly a week, well changed his cot bed to bed. shh Im still proud. Didnt have much of a choice as he kept climbing out of his cot n the morning and bumping his head.

MNersanonymous · 28/03/2008 20:50

ds is 2.9 and I'm glad we didn't rush it to be honest - although he isn't big for his age so maybe if yours are it's different. I'd say keep them in the cot a bit longer.

MNersanonymous · 28/03/2008 20:51

Sorry - that was in reply to llaregub....

pucca · 28/03/2008 20:52

We changed ds to a "big" bed last weekend, he is 19mths he was getting far too huge for his cot, and he has been fab! i was really shocked too, i do find when i check on him he is asleep on the floor though so i just put him back into bed...but he has settled really well.

shelleylou · 28/03/2008 20:53

I didnt plan on ds going into a bed just yet it just seamed the best option as hes far too good at climbing and has only a fraction of the height to fall, if he does. Hasnt yet and is sleeping a lot better now

shelleylou · 28/03/2008 20:55

o ok MNersanonymous
