Hi

2 days ago we went down to 2 naps from 3. We seemed to be over the wake time for those periods and he was fighting last nap pushing bedtime later.

first day was tough we distracted and stretched the wake windows which went ok, but overall he slept was awake 1 hour less than when on 3 naps. Also first night in his own room in his cot rather than next to me.

so, the last night in 3 naps and in the next to me he slept 9-4, fed then 4-7.30. Never slept that good before and I changed nothing. First 2 nights in his own room he has woken every 2 hours.

is this him getting used to 2 nap schedule or an issue with him going into his cot/room.

I don’t know what to do!! We will be doing a bit of gentle sleep training soon anyway as that was the plan I just don’t know if it’s normal when in a new room/ cot

Did you put him in his own room for naps before you fully put him in there to sleep ?

No to be honest we still contact nap as with changing his schedule I didn’t want to add naps into it as well

my plan was contact nap until nights sorted or a bit better. Then a little gentle sleep train. Then naps in his cot

There could be a few things going on. Our 8.5m old went through a phase of waking every 1.5-2hrs at that age for a bit and he has been in his own room since 6m. I'd give it a week to see how the 2 nap schedule settles. How much are you stretching the wake windows by as if its more than 15 mins it may be causing some disruption. Baby may just need to know you're close whilst they settle into their new sleep space. Ours still wakes twice a night for a feed but he's breastfed

I would have done naps in own room first and then moved night time to own room once naps had settled personally. Hopefully it’s just him getting used to a lot of change and it settles.

Thanks all. Yeah I did want to do naps but he only contact naps but was ready to drop to the 2 nap schedule so I thought with that probably making him tired make sure he gets his naps in properly

he did a little better last night, I don’t expect him to not wake at all, he’s never done that but god the hourly wakings are a killer. I did wonder whether development effecting things too as he is constantly rolling around in his cot.

i plan on letting this schedule settle for maybe 2 weeks, then do a little gentle sleep training at night and with naps.

previously was on 2/2.5/2.5/3 so was over the recommended amount for 3 naps anyway. We went straight to 3/3/3 he hasn’t done too bad but more wakings. Like I said he has never slept through. The last night before the switch in naps and bedroom he did 8-4, then fed then slept til 7.30. That’s the best he ever did. But I needed to change naps as bedtime was getting too late and fighting naps. He is also 7.5 months which was 2 weeks overdue so I’m also wondering whether maybe 8 month sleep regression - god knows?!

has he gone into a much bigger bed? Maybe try the roller up towel thing and a sleeping bag so he’s cosy & white noise so he’s not so aware you’re not there. The rolling thing is short lived and then usually helps as they can get comfy.
