i want to buy a tracy hogg book, but having just looked at amazon, am a tad confused as to which book is best, as seems to be several books with "the baby whisperer" in the title, but none actually entitled "the baby whisperer". can anyone recommend the best one, or tell me which is THE book commonly referred to as the baby whisperer? mainly want it to get some tips on my dd2 sleep, 15 weeks, and sleeping badly night and day.

There are plenty of other books besides the Baby Whisperer. Personally, I wouldn't waste time on that book. I know of plenty of moms that felt anxious and bad after reading her book(s). Myself being one of them. You are probably better off talking to your doctor about some literature that would be good for your situation.

I think the main book is Secrets of the Baby Whisperer but you can also get Baby Whisperer solves all your problems and the two are better together imo. There are some reviews of them on here which you might find useful. I came to her books quite late (DD was almost 6 months) and have found them very useful but like all of these baby guru books it's best not to follow them too slavishly or you'll drive yourself mad! Hope that's of some help and good luck with getting your DD to sleep better

I HATED that book - felt extremely anxious and judged by it. Farking accidental parent!! SOld it on ebay after hiding it on a shelf for months.

I think the BW books are great for understanding sleep (cycles/ overtiredness/ winding-down etc) and if you can only afford 1, i would get BW solves all your problems. It gives advice based on baby's age whereas the blue book is more for new mums IMO. Could you try your local library- i know my SIL got BW books from hers.

lilipup · 04/03/2008 11:46

thanks - think i'll go with BW solves all your problems, as this is no.2 for me. (no.1 was very easy!!) can't be as bad as "the one you cannot be named on mumsnet"'s book, as read that in late first pregnancy and almost rigid with anxiety after it. babies are not pets you numpty. keep meaning to sell it on ebay too

the No-Cry Sleep Solution is, imo, much better
'accidental parent' indeed

as with any baby book, borrow from the library before you buy

wurlywoo · 04/03/2008 13:06

wish I had seen this thread before I threw away a tenner on the BW book only an hour ago on Amazon... grr idiot that I am

Mind you it is supposed to be good for understanding babies a bit better will have to take a lot of it with a pinch of salt and sell it to my mate when she has hers!! ha ha

I hated the BabyWhisperer, have to confess I much preferred the one who can't be mentioned. Top tip, get them from the library, then if you like it buy yourself a copy.

Nessamommy · 04/03/2008 19:55

Who is this one who can't be mentioned out of curiosity? Does anyone dare mention it?

intravenouscoffee · 05/03/2008 08:57

I think they're talking about Gina Ford Nessa. If you Google GF and MN you'll see why it's a bit of a sensitive point! But I think we are allowed to mention her name again now.

Nessamommy · 05/03/2008 21:57

Oh my...I've never heard of her. Interesting!

Trespass · 10/03/2008 22:21

That is so funny, I've never heard of her but just googled her and read how she was furious about being slated by mothers on Mumsnet. Only read a few paragraphs and already know I don't want to read anymore, too 'military' for my liking but she has sold tons of books so can't be all bad. I bought the Tracy Hogg 'Baby Whisperer', haven't read it yet, but my friend of 2yrs and 6mth old girls swears by it, so will def try some of her methods

MegBusset · 10/03/2008 23:20

I put my copy of BW in the bin after a couple of weeks of it making me very anxious and stressed. Felt much better after binning it

No Cry Sleep Solution is good though.
