7mo. 5am mornings - when do they stop?!

Hi

my boy has always woken up around 1ish for a feed and then around 5am it’s like he wants up for the day but he is still so tired!! He has always woken up around 5am even when clearly tired and it’s not for hunger. I don’t normally feed him then

the problem is I hold him and he goes back to sleep straight away but it’s never a deep sleep so every time I put him back down he wakes up!!

when does this stop/get better if it does?!

I’ll let you know when my currently 3 year old sleeps past 5am.

TortoiseHare · 13/09/2023 06:05

Still waiting with my nearly five year old.

Kathryn91 · 13/09/2023 06:05

My sons 7months to snd we are in the exact same boat, unless we do sleep and we get an extra hour!

alittleadvicepls · 13/09/2023 06:06

We’ve been up since 4.30am with my 19 months old. Still waiting for it to ‘get better’ 😂

QueenofFox · 13/09/2023 07:05

All three of mine stopped the year they started school 🫣

OhDoh · 13/09/2023 07:08

3.5 year old still does this every morning..

woodyscowboyhat · 13/09/2023 07:08

Tiredmamma123 · 13/09/2023 07:10

Still waiting with my nearly five year old.

Got a 6yo and he is usually up between 5 and 6am. Would also love to know the secret 🙈

TinTinCheeseHat · 13/09/2023 07:12

Yep, as above, when he started primary school. Sorry!

Ostryga · 13/09/2023 07:13

Dd woke up early until school. Now she’s nearly 7 if she has a late night she actually sleeps in! Until 8:30am. It is heaven. Although obviously I wake up at 6am in a panic thinking something has happened to her in the night.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 13/09/2023 17:19

Would you try cosleeping from 5am see if he'll get back to sleep better being cuddled?

moleeye · 13/09/2023 17:43

My 4 year old has only just stopped waking up at 5am in the last 2-3 months. He started school last week so we are trying to get into some semblance of a new routine

I have aged so much from tiredness I may never recover 😂😩

DaisyWaldron · 13/09/2023 18:08

I'm in my late forties and wake up at around 5am most mornings. I don't call my mother to wake her up these days, though! I stopped waking up my mum once I could read books in bed in the early morning.

CarolDunne · 13/09/2023 18:12

For us it about 6 years of age

I had stopped getting up with them from about 4. Just left their breakfast out and they got on with it

Spinningcats · 13/09/2023 18:24

If he falls back asleep can he not sleep with you for an hour or so now he’s a bit older?

for all the tales of doom, my LO was sleeping 7-7 by about 7 months so terrible years ahead is not guaranteed. I do remember the 5am mornings though - looking out at the street of dark houses and wanting to weep!!

MiniBossFromAus · 13/09/2023 18:32

Ha! For me never.

3 children- all early risers
Then competitive early morning sport (think 4am alarm, 4 x a week) for two years

Then they turned 18 and I only slept properly once they got home - often 5/6am.

Now 2 DC have moved out DH has started snoring and the cat yowls.

Hence I am posting at 3.31am (Aus time)

Year13novice · 13/09/2023 18:36

Mine did this and I found it easier to just get up and start the day and have some coffee. I’d just get stressed and cry otherwise!

hellohelp · 13/09/2023 18:45

Poor pp's!!!
I'm only at 2yo but still waiting

twistandscream · 14/09/2023 16:51

My mum is still waiting for this and I'm 67 😂

RedRobin100 · 14/09/2023 16:53

It took my boy til he was nearly 3 to wise up - it also helped when he dropped his day nap - so you’ve possibly got a while to go get sorry..

however, my 16month yo has been much better, he wised up around the 1yr mark, so 🤞🤞🤞🤞 for you!

WeightoftheWorld · 14/09/2023 17:06

Mine were both waking at more reasonable times generally from being about 9/10 months old around the time they started nursery, I think cos that knackered them out and got them into a new routine.

tensmumsnot · 16/09/2023 22:02

For me it meant that I needed to push the first nap later. I think it was a nap at 10 and 2.30 iirc. The early nap facilitated the early waking if that makes sense.

good luck!

Devilsmommy · 16/09/2023 22:12

My nearly 1yo has always been a terrible sleeper and 5am was his wake up time from the start. When he started walking at 10 mo it moved to 6am so that's 1 extra hour😁
