8mo waking every two hours with wind and comfort feeding

My 8mo was a good sleeper up until the 4 month regression and from then on has been up every 45mins- 2 hours 😴
We have been trying to each him the art of self soothing, putting him in his own cot drowsy and sushing him and he's been getting a bit better.
He now wakes pretty much bang on every 2 hours but when he does, he seems uncomfortable, kicks his legs, arches his back and cries hysterically. He often farts in the process which makes me think the discomfort is wind- he's quite a windy baby in the day but farts as he's moving around. The only thing which comforts him in the night when he's uncomfortable is breastfeeding, which I'm worried is actually making his wind worse in the later part of the night as he doesn't always burp and goes back to laying flat on a full tummy. I keep seeing advice which says if baby has wind, bring the last feed 30 mins before bed time but it doesn't work if he's feeding every 2 hours overnight. I feel like we are in a chicken egg scenario!
Any advice? What would others do?
