3 month old won't nap longer than 40 minutes

My daughter is 3 months old and will not nap in the day longer than 40 minutes a time. It's really frustrating as then by her next wake window she's due both a nap and feed. I've tried extending her wake window to 2 hours but still we have a 40 minute nap.
Any tips, advice welcome!
She sleeps very well at night it is just day naps we simply cannot get into a routine with

I don't have any advice, but mine used to only nap for 20 minutes at that age! We didn't bother with trying to get a routine at that point, just let him nap when he wanted, and as he got older the naps got a bit longer and tended to fall at the same times every day - that's when we made his 'routine' match pretty much what he was already doing naturally. It felt easier than trying to impose a routine on him earlier - the only annoying thing was he wanted his first nap a bit later than other babies, so it was hard to go to baby groups where everyone else had already had first nap but mine was just getting tired.

My first DD used to nap for hours and I'd end up waking her, or just checking to make sure she was still breathing.

DD2 was the complete opposite and hated napping. I was lucky if she'd sleep for 15-20 mins before she pinged wide awake again. Nothing much worked although I did have this battery operated baby chair/swing that would lull her off for a while.

You have my sympathy because it's hard work with a nap avoider.

My 4 month is the same been like it for a while for 15 mins is all we get sometimes, he never naps an hour. He sleeps fairly well at night, glad it's that way round.

My two year old still naps for 30-40 mins a lot of the time 😭
I think it's just something they do

What is her usual wake window? Does she wake up happy or crying? Can she self settle yet?

I'd try playing around with wake windows a little more
If she wakes up crying, it suggests that she may be overtired so I'd see if you can settle her back to sleep for a little longer
If she can't self settle yet, I'd start giving that a try.

It’s very normal, she won’t have learnt to link her sleep cycles yet. They’ll get longer as she learns. When she wakes up, try to get her back to sleep for ten minutes. If she doesn’t then go about your day but it will help her to try and learn to link cycles.
