Another cough, blocked nose and terrible sleep

Anyone else in this cycle of illness for the last 6 months? My 14 month old has been ill most weeks since November. I'm beyond exhausted with it all. We do all the things. Humidifier. Calpol plug in. Putting cot up at head end. Nose sucking. Comfort feeds. Painkillers. It's horrible. I've had enough.

She was awake every hour last night then for a block between 12:30-2:30, then 4am, then 5:15, then 6:45.

I’m in a different boat because DS2 is only 7 months old but he’s had on/off colds, viruses, bronchiolitis since he was a newborn! It’s mainly the congestion when he’s got a cold that keeps him waking all night, it’s an absolute nightmare. I can’t take what is general terrible sleep or is caused by illnesses because it’s constant. I feel like we’ve bought most of Boots pharmacy at this point. No advice other than hopefully things improve as we head towards summer!

I posted a near identical post last month. From October to March it was relentless. My DD is 15m old. Back to back to back colds/shits/temps/rashes. The sleep was horrendous. I ended up pitching up in her room because I could not bare having to get out of bed every hour.

It's easing up these last few weeks. Sending solidarity. It's AWFUL.

Thanks both. It's not even 9 o'clock and she's woken up screaming 3 times. She is coughing her head off. So congested. I have an electric snot sucker and it's not shifting it. Calpol plug in on, olbas oil on a Muslin, humidifier, end of cot raised. Calpol, ibuprofen and teething powders and anbesol (she's teething too). Literally everything. I have a pull out bed in her room. It's awful. We are supposed to be going on holiday tomorrow 😬😭

Much much younger but my 8 week old has her third cold already and it is brutal. She cannot lie down as she's so blocked up.
Has she been checked over my a GP? My eldest had bronchiolitis around that age and it was horrible. Hope she gets better soon and you manage to get on holiday.

Hiya, @BabyB2022 I'm a paramedic so don't think any of it is serious. She had Bronchiolitis back in December which was awful but she slept well then because she was so ill. Just very annoying now. She's been up 56784 times tonight. Very snotty and coughing. No temperature. It's brutal. There's nothing I can do beyond what I'm doing.
We also had colds back when baby was a baby and I remember she couldn't lie flat either and me and hubby had to take shifts with her in the sling because of congestion.

@BabyB2022 you can get a nasal aspirator that attaches to the vacuum cleaner. It's perfectly safe and we got a little handheld vacuum to use it with.

You've probably already tried this but if the snot sucker isn't able to get anything out, using saline spray a few mins before can loosen things up so the snot can be removed more easily.

sunflowerandivy · 10/04/2023 11:06

@24HoursFromTulseHill oh yes, I've got the magical sterimar spray on the go too! She probably coughed 67543 times last night. Arrrrrgh! When will it end?
