18M Sleep regression or separation anxiety or night terrors?!

18 month sleep regression, separation anxiety or night terrors? All of the above?! Daughter is 18 months at weekend. In the last couple of weeks she’s been waking roughly after 1 sleep cycle at bedtime ( approx 90 mins) and screaming and won’t settle herself.

It’s getting more frequent, she’ll settle if i give her a quick cuddle and pop her back in cot. She won’t for my husband. We've never had to do this before.

Is this seperation anxiety, sleep terrors or what? Previously when she has experienced SA it’s when she is put in her cot at bedtime not after 90mins. Even now she just rolls over at bedtime and goes to sleep so I’m not sure what’s causing this.

Her molars are coming through but we give pain meds just before bed. We have been lucky since she was born and she's been a good sleeper ( Ferber at 8 months after a blip) bar the obvious teething and sometimes illness, so I’m hoping this is a phase….anybody give their experience?

She sleeps the rest of the night after this waking. Just hate she wakes so upset and it’s breaks up her night. I’m at a loss and I guess just wanting some else with the experience to tell me about theirs. She sleeps with a cuddly toy now and has done for about 1.5 months. Naps are no issue. TIA.

Hi there

Sorry I can't offer any advice but I'm going though a similar situation.
My 15 month nearly 16 month old daughter wakes up within an hour of bedtime she is also getting her molars though had an ear infection past few days but she has been doing this way before teething or being poorly.
I have two older boys who luckily have always been pretty good at sleeping and never had to bring them into our bed but unfortunately at the moment that's the only way for us to get any sleep at night with our daughter.
She did go through this a few months ago then settled back into sleeping through in her own cot but she has started being unsettled a few weeks after again.
She won't self settle no matter how much or what we try and at the minute just don't know what else to do.
Any advice would be helpful.

OhnoyoudidNot I hope your little one settles soon I really wish I could have some words of wisdom but your not alone X

Xx

Thanks @Belles83 for the reply. Sorry to hear you are going through something similar. I'm wondering if it's developmental too and she just has lots going on in her head with so much speech /communication happening of late. I guess I'll never know!

So far she hasn't woken tonight but she is ill so I think she's so exhausted from that that's probably why.

Thanks for your reply lv too.

Could be anything its so hard trying to figure out what it is.
Aww bless her hope shes feeling better soon.
My daughter woke up exactly an hour after falling asleep and is still awake nightmare 😴
Oh I do hope it's just a phrase and she grows out of it soon we can but hope.
Being a parent is so hard isn't it.
I keep looking for answers but can't get any try different methods but they don't work.
One day she will settle one day lol xx

@Belles83 I hope you've managed to get her back down. Yep there's so many factors to contend with and not knowing what it is. Parenting is tough and that's said with a baby who is the happiest wee thing that sleeps never mind one who doesn't or has a not so happy temperament. Nothing prepares for the constant grind of parenthood but knowing your not alone helps. :)

She settled down after a couple of hours but only in our bed 🤦‍♀️ just not sure what to do anymore hopefully she will settle down soon on her own.
Hope your night went ok x

She slept through on weds but last night we had 2 wake ups. Drs apt today and has an ear and throat infection so on antibiotics. We've had a wake up again tonight....same time. She cried but managed to settle back down in a few mins. Hoping it's illness related rather than the regression. Hope things are ok with you!🤞🏻

Aww bless sorry to hear that hope shes feeling better soon. We had a better night last night she settled the first few times in her own room after waking up when daddy went up to her but then was awake again and the last time she wouldn't settle so back into our bed she's been alot happier today her 4 teeth have cut through and her ear infection is clearing up. She's still in her own cot at the minute so fingers crossed but we shall see lol xx

Glad she managed to settle in her own cot. We only had the one wake up at 8.40 and she still asleep now so very lucky. Here's hoping the antibiotics clear everything up and settle things. So many things to contend with the teeth etc too so hard to tell what's going on every night.
