Sleeping and 7 week old baby

Do you think my baby is sleeping too much? She is 7 weeks old and wakes every 4 ISH hours for a bottle currently on 6oz of nutramigen (due to possible cows milk allergy) stays away for the duration of the bottle and winding and then will quite quickly fall back to sleep. She does have a few awake periods after her bottle first thing in the morning for about an hour and same early evening. She will then have a bottle at about 11/12 pm and sleep for at least 6 hours (last night it was 7.5 hours). Does this sound normal? She also wakes for a bottle but if I put her dummy in just to settle her while the bottle is being prepared she will fall back to sleep without the need of the feed. I do feed her but concerned that she falls back to sleep so easily without the feed.

I'll also ask another question on here too if I can as stated earlier she is on nutramigen lgg 1 for possible allergy. She has been on this for 3 weeks now and it has made a massive difference but her weight gain hasn't been keeping trend it has dropped slightly. She still has pain when passing stools and gas and when she does pass stools it is almost watery and less than the effort she is putting into it to release. Do you think I should change the formula to another cows milk free alternative?

To be honest, I think you've got enough there to be worth talking to your GP about. Has she had her 6 / 8 week check yet? Or is that done with her first vaccinations which must be coming up in a week or two.

A good health visitor (sadly only some seem to be really good) could talk you through the sleeping/feeding stuff. But with suspected allergies and changed formula and possibly reduced weight gain, your GP will be more able to cut through which things are normal, which things are absolutely ok, and which things, if any, need attention paid to them.

For what it's worth though, my first answer to your initial question was "no she's not sleeping too much" as soon as your said her age. Young babies do sleep a lot (most of them) and you do describe some alert times. Oh, and my other question for you would be, was she jaundiced as a newborn and has that jaundice fully disappeared?

Hold off on thoughts of changing her formula until you've talked with a health professional.

Good luck, hope things settle down better for you both soon.

Thank you so much for your reply. She has had her 6-8 week check last week but these concerns weren't as high as they are now I guess. I'm taking her to get weighed today where a health visitor will be but like you say good ones are few and far between now. If I don't get any help from them today I'll get an appointment at the doctor's. She's just slept 7 hours and woken up twice once at 2:30am to which I put her dummy back in and she was straight back to sleep which I expected as she wasn't due a feed but then I've just don't the same now and she back to dead asleep after 7 hours of no feed.

Second note yes she did have jaundice. I am pretty sure it has gone fully it wasn't mentioned by the GP at the check that it might still be present. Her first imms are due 14th Feb.
