transitioning to a big girl bed??

We recently bought our girl a proper bed. She is still young, 16 months. We cuddle with her in the bed for story time before bed and involved her in the choosing of the linen and she was very excited when we brought it home. She doesn't want to sleep in it though. Fair enough as it is new, but I am curious as to what other peoples experiences were and am looking for some tips so we can ease her towards sleeping in it.

when they start trying to climb out of the cot, pop them in the bed instead and take away the cot

We just moved our dd (21mths) to a bed. Changed cot to bed, she helped us and she has been great. We did buy one of those cot side things, but she doesn't try and get out of bed yet !!

We have just changed ds cot into a bed after he had worked out how to climb out of his cot - he is 2.4yrs - he started off saying he didn't like it (he doesn't like anything new!) but because the cot physically wasn't there anymore he didn't have much choice and after a bit of initial persuasion to get under the covers he stays in all night.

We just did it - at 19 months. Put up bed in the same room for a few days. He could play on it, read stories, learn how to get in/out. Then on the day of the move he moved all his toys from cot to bed and before bath we did a role play of teddy going to sleep in the big-boy bed. After bath in to bed, normal routine, went to sleep. His sleep is better now than it was in cot (he was squashed and kept getting bashed) and he's not yet tried to get out in the night. A few days later we removed the cot.

Thanks for all the advice... looking forward to taking the cot out. She is a mover and a groover. Always ends up in different positions than when she started.
