2.5 yr old waking up and asking to be 'tucked back in'

ds has been waking up at 6.15am ish (he so isn't an early riser ) saying 'tuck in, tuck in' as he wants his blanket (the one over his sleeping bag that we should never have introduced but he likes now!) tucking back in over him. Once i've tucked it in again he goes back to sleep.

How can I persuade him that it doesn't matter if it isn't tucked in (he should be warm enough without it so it's just a new habit) and that he shouldn't cry out for us for things like that.

Should we ignore him or take the blanket away (seems a bit mean but then again I'm not keen on waking up)

IMO you should tuck him back in without saying anything, kiss him, say "Back to sleep now", and return to your bed. And if you can't get back to sleep, recite the Parents' Mantra: "This, too, will pass."

Thanks Pretty - to be honest I'm not even saying that - I just say nothing.

I've always had a policy of being very uninteresting at night (I probably manage that in the day without a policy!!)

And yep that's part of the problem I can't get back to sleep after!

Oops, forgot to type the word "this".

This?

My ds 2 of the same age is doing exactly the same thing. I think he just needs reassurance.

Good idea re the clips but tbh I think I might just take the blanket away as he doesn't need it given he's in bags.

Also wondering whether if it weren't the blanket he'd have lost his teddy/ moved his pillow/ done something else to just get me in the room!

Let's hope it's only one of those many phases!
