DS is 2.4. He goes to sleep about 8pm, wakes up at 7.30am. Has a nap at 1pm until 4pm.

He has always loved his afternoon nap and even now says can i go to bed from about 12.30 onwards.

He's very active when he is awake, a real chatterer and running around too.

Is this normal? Has anyone else had DC who sleeps this much?

Im only worried because he has for the last month been asking to go to bed. And if anything he is sleeping more than he was 6 months ago.

Any thoughts? (Apart from "you lucky cow, make the most of it"!!!!?)

My ds is 31 months and sleeps from 7pm-8am ish with a two hour nap in the day.
Like your ds he is always on the go.I don't worry that he likes sleeping as he must use up so much energy when awake.HTH.

Make the most of it- i did! My 3.1 year old sleeps 12-14 hours at night and although she has pretty much dropped her afternoon nap, when she did nap, we'd sometimes have to wake her at 4.45pm for her tea! If you find your DS is chattering away til 9 or 10 at night, you may want to cut the nap short, but if he goes down at 8pm, i wouldn't change things.

Ds1 is 2.8,sleeps from 7pm-8am,then has a nap around 1pm.If I were to leave him he'd sleep til about 4pm so I usually wake him about 3pm.
Ds2 is 9 months old and also loves his sleep. He sleeps from 6.30pm-7.30am,then has a nap between 12-3pm.
Enjoy it while it lasts.

I think by this age they are pretty much self regulating, as pulapula says you may have to wake them to eat their tea but toddlers can get very worn out by their active days.

sounds fine ds sleeps 7pm - 6am, has a 2-3 hour nap in the morning and a 1-2 hour nap in the afternoon. he is 19 months.

thanks everyone, very reassuring - especially as a lot of friends have been telling me i should be cutting his afternoon nap out altogether now he's nearly 2.5 (interesting how that particular bit of advice always comes from friends who dont have kids!!!!).

pulapula, he does chatter to himself at night for up to an hour so may try cutting his nap back to 3 or 3.30.

thanks everyone.
