Is 20mo too early for a toddler bed?!

My 20 month old DD has just climbed out of her cot, I feel like she is too young for me to put her bed up yet But it looks as though tonight is the night!
Does anyone have any tips for this transition as I am now absolutely dreading bedtime?!

Both my girls went into beds at 18 months. Neither were planned but dd1 was a climber. To be fair her cot was against a wall with her drawer unit next to it so when we put the fold down side on it she was pretty hemmed in. Then when dd2 was 18 months we had had some work done on our house to create a big bedroom for them both so we just went straight to one of those ikea extendable beds at either end. I don't remember it being particularly hard work but I assume there must have been a period of settling in for both of them!

Ds was out of his cot at 14 months. He was a wriggler and kept banging his head on the side of the cot and waking himself up.
Put him in a toddler bed and slept through.
