Baby has made his own bed time

My LO is just 8months

He's always slept really well at night (and basically awake all day)
His bedtime used to be about 730pm which was perfect for us
But it's gradually crept earlier to about 6

That's when HE decides he wants to go to sleep

Now with the clocks going back he's wanting to go to bed by 4pm and point blank refusing to eat after 3/4pm

So if he goes to bed at 4pm and sleeps for his usual 10/11 hours that's a 2/3am morning 😭

Or if we keep him up he's still waking up at 3am hungry and wanting to play
He's then awake for about an hour, had another 1-2 hours sleep and then up for the day

I've been trying to push it back 15mins a day but not much luck as he just won't eat

And it doesn't seem to make a difference if he has an afternoon nap or not

Anyone had anything similar or have any advice?

Ps I know I'm lucky that he sleeps well but he's also will only sleep for about 1-1.5 hours total in the day and I'm working when he's asleep which is currently very strange hours due to when he's sleeping

Xxx

Why cant you just let him nap at 4pm if he is adamant he wants to sleep, and then push his bedtime back to 8/8:30?

Mummyboy1 · 04/11/2022 07:52

At that age he still may need a small nap around the 4pm. Let him have a nap, and then a play, evening meal, and whatever you do for your bedtime routine

I'd try and make 4pm a nap. Or perhaps a bit earlier.

But then i remember if i ever had to wake mine from a late nap, there was hell to pay. Worth a try though.

Yep I agree nap at 4pm for 30 mins maybe 45 mins. Then dinner about 530pm to 6pm. Have a play, bath etc. Milk and perhaps supper bed about 8pm to 830pm - just remember that Any changes takes up to 3 weeks to see a change. So may be a transition period x

Is he having a morning nap, if so what time. If he's napping like 9-11 then that's why he's waking too early. Push his main nap of the day gradually later til it's closer to lunchtime and you should find he wakes later.
