How the hell do you go to to 1 nap

DD is 14m. Thinking of transitioning to 1 nap. But he wakes 5-5.30 EVERY day. Have tried a multitude of things to fix this including later bedtime, earlier bedtime, later morning nap, shorter morning nap. It’s been months and NOTHING has worked.

The only thing left is to drop to one nap. Ideally I’d like this to be 12-2pm. Currently he sleeps for an hour ish at 9-9.30 and 1hr30-2hrs at 1.30pm ish.

How do I get him to go from 5am to 12?! He often has classes/groups from 10-11.30ish so can’t nap then.

Maybe drop the 9am nap, keep him up through his morning activities and then lunch and put him down for a nap right after, around 1pm. Although it seems like a very long stretch to go from 5am to 2pm. I think he'll be pretty cranky.

You just have to keep him going till 12 then he will fall into a better pattern by himself. Nap at 12 not before max 2 hrs. Bed at 7.

We do it differently here and it suits our lifestyle, and our kid is low sleep needs so we have to wing it a bit. We do nap 1230/1245 up by 245. Bed 8pm. Rises about 630 to 7. If i put her to bed at 7pm she be up at like 5 to 530am. It's only thing that worked for us.

How we went to one nap. Cutting that first nap down and pushing later.
930am to 1015am. 1pm till 3pm.
After a few weeks
930am till 10am. 1pm till 3pm nap.
After a another few weeks
945am/950am till 10am. 1230/1pm till 3pm nap.

This last 10 to 15 mins was hard to cut. So we did it on my annual leave. I was off for 2 weeks and I made sure we were out through the door by 9am. Coming back for lunch. Lots of snacks to keep lo going. After 2 weeks, she was better but took around 6 weeks to be completely settled.

Out of curiosity have you tried cutting first nap down for a little while before losing that first nap? It might help with early starts that's how I knew I needed to cut down the morning nap when they reared there heads back up for us.

My lo is 14 almost 15 months she's just transitioned to one nap.

The childminder did it really not me (3 days per week) as it just happened to suit her better and I've kinda went with it as lo was happy.

She gets up about 6.30am
Breakfast 7ish
Lunch 11.45
Nap 12.30 - 2.30/3
Lunch 4.30
Bed 6.30pm

And she is like clockwork

She has snacks in between meals as she is a food monster but she's very predicable.

she used to nap 9.30 and 2.30 in the afternoon so it was a case of distraction / playgroups activities in the mornings to distract her for a week or so until she settled into it.

Fwiw though she has always slept all night. She did start doing a sneaky little 5am wakey up when on 2 naps so that's when we knew it was time to change

Cut the first nap to 15-20 mins, then try and slowly inch towards lunchtime for the second nap. You’ll get there!

@ChittyBang1987 tried cutting it to
one sleep cycle for a week or so. Most weekdays he has a shorter morning nap as he has to be out the door at 10am for groups and the childminder. Doesn’t seem to have made much difference unfortunately to the 5am start.

Any changes you make can take up to 3 weeks to see any changes. Maybe cut it down some more.
