if your LO is on a mattress - has it helped and what size???

After yet another disastrous bedtime, I'm wondering whether we need to consider getting a mattress on the floor for DS (11mo) and give up on the cot.

For the last 4 months I've battled at bedtime to get him to settle in his cot at the beginning of the eve, as this is supposed to be the best way to get babies to learn to self-settle. well, 4 months on, he still wakes a couple of times before we go to bed, then joins us in bed when we go up. He won't self-settle during the eve and CC not for us.

So, I wonder if he'd feel happier on a mattress??? Seems to hate the cot (don't blame him, I hate seeing him behind bars as it were!) and that way I could lie down with him to settle him to sleep at the beginning of the evening.

Be grateful to hear if this has helped you, what your routine is like and how you settle your LO to bed if you've taken this route, TIA.

why not just put him in your bed? cushions either side of him, or on the floor. or a bed guard on each side?

imo (which may nto count for much!)

his waking is probably more to do with hunger/teething or wind than where he is sleeping!
