My 11 yo dd cannot get to sleep at night. What to do?

My 11 yo dd has quite suddenly developed real difficulties in getting off to sleep at night. My children have always had really good sleep routines. She is often still awake at midnight but has to be up at 0630 to catch the school bus. By mid week she is exhausted and wanting day off school to 'catch up'.
I have tried breathing, night light, relaxation, soft music. If she reads she doesn't put the book down!

If there aren't any underlying problems, then a stroy tape might help. We have a tape intended for quite little children that our 12 year old asks for sometimes if her brain is racing and she needs to relax!

My dd1 (11) is the same. Would more physical exercise during the day help?

I have some relaxation mp3s for children

cat me and I will send them

lavender, apparently.

Is she too old for you to sit with her at bedtime for a bit, stroke her forehead and maybe sing?

Or would you both cringe and fall about laughing?

Thanks for all these useful tips. I agree about exercise but it's such a crap time of year for that, isn't it.
We do a lot of reading at bedtime and also lavender etc. Singing would be less than restful! I'd def like the relaxation mp3s for children.
Am I pathetic to keep her off school for a day? Have been fighting this all week and never normally allow this!
