(am pushing my luck i know) after yesterday's thread about cc with ds2, i now would like to canvas opinion on night-roaming ds1

for the past few weeks, ds1 (2.8yo) has developed a habit of getting out of bed and camping elsewhere in his room

we always have to put him in bed when we check on him before going to bed, and he sometimes is back out of bed by the morning

(i should explain, he is obsessed with hiding "Ide! Ide!")

he used to have a play tent in his room, so that would be his hideyhole of choice (along with all bedtime accessories - pillow, duvet, cars, water beaker, dummies, taggie blanket, noddy, etc etc)

we moved it out of his room a few night ago and since then we've found him curled up on the carpet in the corner of his room

would be harmless i suppose, but he's been very close to the radiator and pipe when i've found his he last 2 nights - am worried he may burn himself

so, do i replace the tent and just let him kip in there if he likes? or keep the tent out, but move some furniture to blcok the radiator?

i meant to ask, anyone else experienced this? did you just leave it and hope they'd grow out of it?

You can get special bed tents. Ds used to have one and he loved it.

omg, he would love it

I would replace the tent, unless there is some problem with him sleeping in there (does he sleep well?)

Or could you arrange something round his bed to make it into a tent-like structure. Like nail up a sheet? It sounds as if he feels secure when he's hidden from the outside world.

he's in a cotbed, so doubt the manufactured bad tents would work, unfortunately

maybe we should make one for him as per your suggestion, alarkaspree

Yes ds2 and dd have both done this. I found ds2 in the laundry basket once - that was weird, he was all curled up with is bottom sticking up. He's a bit odd though around sleeo.

DD not as odd about sleeping, but sometimes I have found her on her floor, with pillow etc, or on ds1's floor - that used to happen quite a bit.

I put it down to finding some variety and they both seem to have grown out of it.

Might be worth talking to him - just incase there is actually a monster under his bed, or he doesn't like the weird shadow on the ceiling above?

DS1 does this alot, when he was younger I used to go up and find him sleeping on the floor by the stair gate. Even now (he is 4) he will often sleep on the floor or on dd's floor. A couple of months ago I went up and found him curled up in a basket of clean washing on the landing!! He's also often in my bed when I go up and I'm fully expecting to find him in the cot now ds2 is in his room

If its somewhere really awkward that looks uncomfortable - the washing basket or directly on laminate floor - then I move him back to bed, otherwise I just leave him where he is.

I think if he likes sleeping in the tent and he sleeps well then I'd let him do that. Unless you think its encouraging him to sleep out of his bed and you'd rather not do that in which case I would block off the radiator if you can.

Lol 100x

Aha Pesha! Laundry basket sleepers of the world unite.

With ds2 sleeping all over the place, and dd in some places, they were looking for light and company I think. But often dd used to sleep on her own floor like yours Tutter.

ok

his pirate tent fits onto his cotbed, neatly sitting around his bedguard so it won't fall off

he is now in it and shows no signs of coming out

not a long term solution, as tent quite tiny, but think it'll do for now

ps lol at pesha and 100x snap stories
