How do I get 12mo to sleep until at least 6am or is this a dream?!

They wake at 5.15am it's near pitch black in their room so it's not light but could be the birds? They've had short spells of sleeping past 6am but illneses have always stopped that gorgeous experience.

They nap at 9am and again at 2pm, give or take one is usually 45min the other 1.5hr. Bedtime at around 8pm. I pushed it later and this helped the previous stint of sleeping longer but seems to have stopped.

They're obviously building up a sleep debt as they have bags under their eyes 😔

Hmmm by my reckoning that’s 11.5 hours sleep in 24, which actually could be ok. It’s at the lower end of normal but still within normal range for that age group (from memory).

I think it’s the naps - I’d be looking to transition to one nap at this age, and no sleep after about 2/2.30pm. So you’re probably looking for a 2-2.5 hour nap which might go over lunchtime right now but should shift later. Then bedtime shifts a little earlier perhaps. But some are just early risers. My first was, and I trained him to be quiet in bed with me. Even at 8yo he’s still awake by 6 most days.

It could be birds. Have you tried white noise or pink noise?

Do you wake lo from their naps?

My lo wakes early at that time because their overtired..... from what your saying maybe lo is overtired? If your waking from naps maybe why?

At 12 months I do and not much has changed now my lo is 15 months except we go between 1 and 2 naps.

Somewhere between 9am and 930am pop down for sleep up by 10am latest. I always allow up to hour for sleep, depending on night sleep, and whether she's been having one or two naps at nursery as sleeps less there. Then I pop down again about 1pm to 115pm until she wakes up but no later then 330pm. From 945 till 2pm is a long wake time?

I always give a big lunch and a custard or yoghurt before nap to make sure filled. I dont know if your still giving bottles but a bottle would be good.

Also maybe try upping food in day? I found my lo increased food intake at 12 months ? My lo has
Breakfast 730am ish.
Snack 930am if on one nap that day if not it can be before nap at home. All depends. Maybe after nap.
Snack 11am
Lunch 12 to 1230pm
Snack 330pm to 4pm
Dinner 530pm
Some of our dinner if we haven't eaten together if not snack 630pm
730pm and 745pm offer 8oz takes anywhere between 4oz to 8oz.
Yes I know she eats a lot but she's tall and charges around all day.

Honestly, some kids are just earlier risers. My DS was awake at 5am for years, no amount of tinkering with naps/bedtime/light made a difference. He’s now 13, and still awake at 6:30am every day.

moleeye · 25/05/2022 07:06

My 3 year old dropped his nap just before he turned 2 and has got up at 5-530am every morning since then. Well, apart from the 3 months that he got up at 430......

My daughter did the same and it's only now she's 7 that she 'lies in' until 630.

I'm hoping my ds does the same! We take it in turns getting up with him and often have to have an early night so we can function as after a while it takes it toll.

bakewellbride · 25/05/2022 07:19

No advice but my 3 and a half year old woke at 5 this morning 😔

RedRobyn2021 · 25/05/2022 07:45

Some kids just wake earlier. Could you adjust things and go to bed an hour earlier? Then 5am won't be so bad

Schulte · 25/05/2022 07:47

DD2 used to wake up early, she’d come into our bed and we all went back to sleep for another hour or so. I actually miss those snuggles (she’s 13 now).

4.30am for my 2 1/2 yo screaming that she wanted her tutu Confused I think it's just one of those things you can't control!

That’s actually quite sweet, although I’m sure you didn’t think so at 4.30!

My DD once demanded pudding after her breakfast when she was about that age. She was quite insistent 😁
