Moving baby to own room

What age did you move your baby to their own room?

My son is coming up to 14 weeks old and he has been in a next to me cot. I've been gradually getting him to have his daytime naps in his own room in the cot to kind of transition him there.. but I feel he is that bit young to move out of our room. He's a very noisy sleeper and we just aren't getting much sleep despite him sleeping great from 11:30-6am

Safe sleeping guidelines are extremely clear that babies should not sleep alone until 6 months old.

I would have white noise on a low level. This would help drown out low level baby noises but he is still in your room.

I couldn’t sleep properly with ds in with me because I was actually on alert listening out for him. Ironically I slept better when he was right next to me as opposed to in a cot which felt too far away!

@LovelyBitOfSquirrrel yeah I was thinking I will move him at the 6 months mark as I'm only doing transition of day time naps in there so it's not a drastic change when I do move him.

I was just curious when people did move their babies - I was speaking to a friend recently and she moved her baby when she was 4 weeks old which I couldn't fathom

I always say this ok these kinds of thread but the statistics show that 3 - 4 months old is when there is the highest risk of SIDS. One of the ways to reduce the risk is to sleep in the same room as your baby. Yes, the overall risk is tiny and there are thousands and thousands of parents who will have done it without issue but it always seemed like an unnecessary risk to me.

@mynameiscalypso absolutely I wouldn't want to take any unnecessary risk, if it meant having to sleep in the same room as the baby for 2 years to minimise risk then I would absolutely do that as I'm sure anyone else would.
Just very curious what ages others moved them into own rooms and anyone I've spoken to about it have massive variations between the ages

He needs to sleep in a room with another person until he is 6 months old. Babies have difficulty regulating their breathing until then so are at risk of SIDS.

Also I was told in my NCT classes as the mother of a baby you are naturally on high alert at night this is partly why you have difficulty sleeping. Some fathers get this as well but nearly all mothers do. It's also why mothers can safely co-sleep and the majority of fathers can't.

As you mentioned "we" you should take it in turns to sleep with him in the room and the other adult should sleep elsewhere.

My first I moved out at 16 weeks as he was a noisy sleeper, my second 6months.

DS was 2. DD will be around 11 months as she's a light sleeper and I'm waking her up when I get into bed.

Moved both of mine out at 5 months (not twins - 19 months apart), I was going crazy with sleep deprivation and couldn’t function in the daytime. We would wake each other up and then DDs would take forever to settle back to sleep.

I have a four month dd and I don't plan to put her into her room for quite some time yet. I don't feel I will be ready to do so at 6 months and think she will be in with us for longer. They say 6 months minimum but a lot recommend sleeping in the same room until one year. Obviously this doesn't work for all and fully respect everyone's decisions on when they do it.
I find it easier having her in our room as well as I can see to her quicker than getting up and going to her room

We let ours stay with us until they were ready (we coslept) dd1 was 2.5 years dd2 was 6 years. They are only young for a short time, why let them struggle crying on their own?

Our lo was 7 months old about. We had a particularly bad night and I was like nope nope your sleeping in own room. Turns out I was keeping her awake and that didn't help with her being so restless.

Dd 10 weeks, ds 8 months, I went with them both times. I need my sleep,and I got the most when it was just me and my baby in a room together.

We stopped at 8 months. I do remember being kept awake/not sleeping well when he was in our room. I ended up moving his Moses basket and then cot to my DH side of the bed (otherwise I was checking on him at the slightest noise) and I wore ear plugs. I could still hear him if he needed me but I was able to block out the other non urgent sounds.

We moved DD at 11 weeks, aware it was against guidelines, but as with everything with kids you do your own risk assessment and make your own decision.

Pregnant with number 2 so will see how we get on this time!

With my first it was 7 months and with my second it was 12 months ( my second co slept which is why he was later ).

The noisy sleeping is such an issue though . Both of mine were like that and it’s such a struggle to sleep through . Do you have a spare room ? My husband and I use up take turns sleeping away for this exact reason . As long as there is one parent in the room with baby 🤗

Own room at 4 weeks. I shared with him until 3 months. Clearly I had a death wish for my son.
