6 month old wakes every few hours screaming

Hi please help … my 6 month old dd has been waking every night multiple times and then getting up for the day at 5am !!! . When she wakes it seems like she is only half awake and usually has her eyes closed but is crying/screaming and will only stop if i pick her up and walk her around .
It’s so so strange as she puts herself to sleep in her cot after her evening bath most nights but can not self sooth and put herself back to sleep through the night.
I wondered if anyone has any experience of this as it’s really getting me down . I am completely exhausted, anxious daily for what the night will bring and I am not spending any time with my husband as we all sleep in separate rooms so as he can get some sleep with my other daughter before work and school . I have tried calpol before bed in case she is teething but it doesn’t seem to help . She is fine during the day a little moaning some days but I think that maybe because she is so tired . We have a holiday booked for next week but I’m so worried about us all trying to sleep together in one room I am genuinely considering cancelling it . Please if anyone has any advice or experience with this please let me know . Thanks so much x

Is she hungry?
Mine couldn’t go without a feed at night at that age.

Hi thank you for your reply, I do dream feed her at 10/11 usually then she has a bottle at 2/3 but last night she was particularly bad screamed from 2115 on and off until 1130 then we dream fed her with some calpol and she slept until 3 then screamed and refused a bottle until 4 then was up for the day at 5 ! During the day she is lovely but during the night she screams like she is in agony I contemplated taking her to A&E last night but my husband talked me out of it !! Xx

What are her day time naps like? Mine were like this when they were over tired.

Hmmmm, since she did sleep better after calpol it maybe that she’s in pain.

It took months for us to figure it out with our first but it started at about 4.5 months old and he had CMPA(&SOYA) and it was irritating his gut but only really at night time because cortisol (the wake up/daytime hormone) has anti inflammatory properties so in the day it wasn’t hurting him but at night when that reduced to allow melatonin and therefore sleep it began to hurt.

We put him on pepti 1 and he slept through a few nights later

Hi thank you this is something to think about . Yes we thought that about the calpol but equally she had screamed on and off for a couple of hours and she had missed her last nap of the day so also thought she could be knackered finally … Could she develop something like this at 6 and a half months do you think ?
She’s been on aptimil 1 since 8/9 weeks old ? How did you find out your baby had an allergy did the doctor refer you ? I’m praying tonight will be a better night a week of this is plenty enough for me the screaming is so stressful! X

@ZJ86 I am basically going through all of this now and have been for the past 8 weeks. Have things improved for you?

ZJ86 · 06/04/2022 12:00

Hi @fawn68 we had a few decent nights of her sleeping 4 hours , bottle then another 4 hours up at 5 ish but now we are back at it . We are currently on holiday and she has been Terrible every night pretty much up screaming every 2 hours so it’s safe to say she will not be going on holiday again until she’s a teenager lol .
It’s so rubbish but hopefully they will turn a corner soon . I honestly think it’s either teething or they can’t get themselves from one sleep cycle to the next so they get frustrated and start crying/screaming. Has your baby got any teeth yet ? How old is he/she ? Xx

@ZJ86 Oh no that's awful, I thought maybe the heat etc would tire them out. I would love the 4 hours plus another 4. We are having some times 4 hours then 1-2 hourly wakes and then he is up from 5:45/6 am 😞 He is almost 6 months old, and no teeth yet but he definitely is teething. But unfortunately this has been going on for 8 full weeks now! I'm at my wits end 😩
