5mth waking at night, not crying but not sleeping, taking a couple of hours to settle...any advice?

OK let me set the scene. Ds has just started solids and has just stopped being swaddled. He wakes for a 2-3am feed then won't go back to sleep for an hour and a half.

He's in an amby hammock amby so I bounce him, he's not crying but not sleeping either.

I do feed him to sleep at night, he goes down at 8pm without a dream feed. He isn't great at self settling, for day time naps I usually bounce him to sleep as well.

As he's not crying I don't see the point of doing pupd. But if I stop bouncing the amby he'll cry.
Do you think I should stop the bouncing, then try pupd when he cries?

My LO went through a week or so of this behaviour - he was a bit older than yours though. It's torture isn't it! It was when he was moved onto significantly more solids. TBH I got up with him, went downstairs and had a cuppa, with him in his babychair. It seemed less awful than staying upstairs when he was clearly wide awake. i found that a peiod of 'proper' wakefulness actually tired him out enough for him to go back to sleep relatively quickly, although it was tough. Hope this helps a little.

If you are bouncing him to settle him then this is what he will get used to. I was still swaddling my dd at this age (under the arms) Maybe that would help.

thanks for the replies, last night was much better so I guess it's just some nights are good and some are bad. I am going to stop the bouncing in the day to help him learn to self settle.
