When did your babies start sleeping better at night?

My 3 month old sometimes sleeps 6/7 hours but most nights wakes up between 2-4 times. Just wondering when everyone else's babies settled into a routine? I don't mind the night feed I just wish they were more consistent so I knew what to expect. He's breastfed if that makes a difference, thanks !Smile

When he was 1.5 😂🙈

Is he waking up from hunger, pain?

Is he trying to crawl, sit up? Developments can knock sleep out.

My now 3yo DD started sleeping through just before 2nd birthday.

First part of the night became gradually longer but it certainly wasn't this (3mo) early on.

I now have a 3mo too and she's doing the same as yours. I wouldn't personally expect anything better than what you're describing at this stage. Apparently there is a 3mo sleep regression but I've learnt to try and ignore such theories and just go with the flow.

Are the wake up periods quite quick for your DD at the moment? Is she in her own cot or are you cosleeping (I think cosleeping makes it worse in my experience ... says she, who is still very much cosleeping! 😂🙈)

(Sorry, I meant your DS, not DD)

Age 3 for my son. Age maybe around 6 or ,7 months for my daughter.

Notmydaughteryoubitch · 10/11/2021 22:47

Started sleeping through the night at 4.5 years old! Smile

FindingMeno · 10/11/2021 22:47

About 4/5 months for my dc's.

RedRobin100 · 10/11/2021 22:49

7 / 8 months after gentle sleep training

The 4/5/6 month mark was the pits I’ll be honest

3 yrs old..... Then regressed back. At 4 he wakes once just to check we're still here Confused

Sounds perfectly normal and actually to be getting any 6/7hr stints at 3mo is amazing x

When he was almost two and stopped breastfeeding. All along I thought the comfort would somehow make him settle more but it's quite the opposite!!

ChickenSchnitzel · 10/11/2021 23:00

8 weeks or so with one, 3+ years with the other. Both breastfed as babies. I did a lot of shhh patting with both to help them self settle.

Feetupteashot · 10/11/2021 23:00

Quite a long time. But she slept in my bed so could feed easily overnight and my sleep was better then

Looking forward to her coming in around 2 already!

Depends which child but all got worse at around 3.5 months then better from 7-10 months. Ds3 is a bit awful most nights still aged 17m but usually just once. Older kids haven't been up at night for years.

I would say my 8 month old is really good now. But we do have hiccups developmental wakeup etc. She sleep 8/815pm till 6/7am 🤷🏼‍♀️ as someone mentioned from 3 - 6 months old it was the pits for us. Tbh until now it's been the pits. I think it depends on the child Tbh. I have known some babies to have best sleep since their born 🤷🏼‍♀️

Exactly the same for us, although we went from 1 or 2 night wakings to very early starts (pre sleeping through it was maybe a wake at 3 followed by sleeping til 7, once sleeping through it was waking at 5 to start the day for months). I actually dealt so much better with a couple of night wakings than with the mega early starts!

DD1 finally slept through 12 hours when she started dropping her final nap at 18 months. At almost 3 she’s still an incredibly light sleeper, struggles to switch off and if she has even a tiny snooze in the car will be up at 4 the following morning.

Touch wood DD2 seems to actually enjoy sleeping, and even does the odd 11 hour stretch at 14 weeks. She does only have short naps like DD1, but it’s a revelation having a baby who doesn’t scream herself to sleep.

Both formula fed from birth, bedtime routine very early on. I’ve come to the conclusion that baby sleep is a lottery.

When we night weaned at about 8 months. Started solids at 6 months and gradually increased this, then started cutting down feeds in the night. Before 7-8 months, if she woke in the night, we fed her. From this time, we picked a time and if she woke up earlier, tried to settle her back down without a feed. Gradually pushed that time forward. One day she slept until 6am with no feeds at about 8 months so from that point, no feeding in the night any more. Sleep rapidly improved from that point until she was doing a solid 12 hours every night by 9 months.
