Keep trying to move from swaddle to grobag and just doesn't work

DS is 16 weeks and we keep trying to move him from his swaddle into his grobag. In his swaddle he sleeps not too badly but in his grobag he wakes himself up all night. We have tried putting his arms inside the grobag but he squrims them out - so after a few nights of this we always go back to the swaddle. Any ides on how i can move to the grobag?

i will watch with interest

ds2 20 weeks old

also swaddled

wakes himself up all the blardy time if not swaddled

but is getting strong so manages to wriggle free a couple of times during the night

am fed up of reswaddling

unswaddle gradually

first, one arm out of the swaddle

couple of days later, both arms out of the swaddle (so just swaddled under the armpits)

then you can gradually loosen it around the body

TBH lots of babies still have a strong moro reflex at 3 - 5 months ... so perhaps time is not right?

Yes same here, DS manages to squirm his arms and legs out and ends up wearing the swaddle just round his waist!!! how ever tight I swaddle him he does this so really want to make the grobag work!

I tried leaving one arm out and it didn't really work as he just gets the other one out and then is awake again all night. Someon has suggested sewing up the arms on the grobag and getting him used to it that way - has anyone done this or think that it is ok to try?

atm ds2 is swaddled in a sheet inside a 1.0 tog grobag

so arms inside iykwim

not great though as there's till room inside for him to wriggle arms free of swaddle

even though he can't get his hands to his face, that little bit of freedom is enough to wake him and set him off [glum]

have visions of swaddling him in king size duvet cover when he's 18...

DS hated the grobag, we swaddled and then moved onto a very heavy blanket - he liked the weight.

Hi,

We had problems too with the swaddle to grobag. We went for a single blanket then sheet from chest downwards tightly tucked under the mattress to give some of the tightness he got in the swaddle and anchored his grobag by the end down the mattress/cot/basket end.

Gradually got rid of the anchors and he eventualy slept fine. This was a baby who wouldnt sleep at all unlesss swaddled.

Know you arent supposed to use anything else with the grobags but carefully chose clothes, opened window in room etc.

PS doesnt sleep now for other reasons but remember when he did fondly!
