When did you night wean?

Just that really... struggling to find a reliable source of info on what age it’s appropriate. My health visitor says my nearly 7 month old should be able to do without night feeds but I’m not sure. I’d always thought I’d wait for her to drop them naturally but most people I know seem to have night weaned at some point.

I won't be doing it until at least 18 months as personally I think it is the biological norm for mammals to be fed at night for a much longer period than is the norm in Western society, but each to their own Smile

Just be aware that night weaning doesn't mean baby will sleep better. Most my friends that have done it said their babies still woke, they just didn't have the magic boob to get them back to sleep any more.

I did at around 7.5 months. My baby wasn’t really feeding for hunger, just for comfort, so I phased it out. Ultimately I think it helped improve his sleep, as he was in the habit of yelling for a 45 second feed every hour, and that stopped when I night weaned him.

I don’t think there’s really any ‘should’ about it - what’s right is what works for you.

I was gonna come on to say that the large number of wakings is almost definitely not hunger related, so if you're happy to cut it down to just one then night weaning is kind of beside the point - but looks like you've already figured that out! To answer your question - we did it around 8 months, shortly after sleep training with gradual retreat (which worked a dream, down from five wakings to one on night one!) I wasn't in a rush to night wean but her one wake for feeding got later and later until it reached the point where she couldn't get herself back to sleep after, even though you could see she was trying, so it was time
