Can anyone give me any pointers with 6 month old sleep?

My 6 month old has three naps, one in the morning, one in the afternoon and one around half three. The lengths vary considerably.

He is generally waking three times at night. He goes to bed around 8 (again, variable by fifteen minutes either side) and wakes at around 11, 2 and 5. It would be brilliant to cut the 2am wake as to be honest he doesn’t need anything (and I know comfort and a cuddle is a need for a young baby but still!)

I’m worried that his wake windows are a bit too long - around three hours. Is this normal or do I need to try to make them smaller? And any pointers for the 2am wake up would be great!

You say nap lengths vary considerably and I think that’s where you could tweak things. I’d definitely cap his last nap of the day to around 30-45 mins and try not to let him sleep past 5pm. White noise can be handy too (you can get various whooshing / wave noise on Spotify, etc).

But honestly, sometimes no matter what you do, it doesn’t make any difference so if he’s not having it, don’t beat yourself up and remember this will most likely be over in a matter of months. I know it’s hard!

Thanks Smile He does wake up when he wakes up, if you see what I mean. The last nap tends to be no longer than forty five minutes and we are lucky to get that to be honest- he has recently started to take longer naps but not always.

As a VERY rough estimate his first nap is about 45 minutes, second an hour and third around 45 again.
