10 month regression? Or just being a baby

My DS has always been a good sleeper comparatively speaking. He has been sleeping 7-6/6:30 for the last few weeks with very few wake ups. Mostly sleeping through. We deal with wake ups (when he cries and won't settle) by going up and hand on chest/patting. Picking him up wakes him up more.

A few days ago he caught a cold - woke up one morning really snotty and congested. Since then, he's either crying when put down for naps/sleep (normally can just put him down in his cot and leave), or waking up an hour or so after bedtime and crying on/off for hours.

I was getting all smug thinking what an amazing sleeper I have, which serves me right.

I'm assuming it's just the cold/bug that he's caught and he just struggles to sleep or needs cuddles? Is it a regression? He just cries and cries and nothing soothes him. He can go on for hours whereas previously he would just sleep through. I don't mind going up and soothing him but nothing is working, picking up and rocking, patting, shushing. Gave him calpol. No temperature. I just want him to stop crying and being upset for so long, I will do anything!

Any ideas or advice?
