When he was ill a few weeks ago I was taking him into bed to comfort him but now it's impossible to break the habit. He settles fine in his cot at 7, but wakes up around midnight every night and screams and screams (he is VERY determined) until someone comes and takes him into bed. Then he is happy as larry. Trouble is then he pulls my hair and fiddles with me all the time so I can't sleep.

How can we break the habit?? I've tried leaving him but he just carries on and on, he kept it up for an hour last night and I worry he'll wake his sister. I tried going in to sooth him, but he just screamed louder when I didn't pick him up.

I am SOOOO tired I can hardly function...

Been there got the t shirt! It is a hard one but we toughed it out for 3 nights and eventually dd got the message. Try the controlled crying method of reassure but dont linger and then leave for 5 mins, then go back and repeat, gradually lengthening the time. We still have bouts of this at 4 years old but with a mixture of bribery rewards and taking them back to bed straight away it sorts itself out. I do sympathise, sleepless nights are awful, you think it will never end. Just keep telling yourself they wont be doing it at 15!!!!!!!

We are in exactly the same boat and have been for 3 weeks. DD is 15 months, goes in her cot at 7, wakes between 1 and 2, screams if not brought into our bed, then either settles with us or gets over-exicted to see us and won't go back to sleep for ages. We tried CC and she screamed from 3-5am when I gave up and admitted her will is stronger than mine.

I am afraid I don't have much to suggest. CC did not work for us. I am hoping it is teeth and she will stop waking soon (she used to sleep through). In fact, last night she did sleep through for the first time in weeks. It was bliss.

Dont know if this will help your lo.I taped a photo of me and dh inside the cot bars and that seemed to help.Good luck.I would persevere with the controlled crying though.

Just been to the baby clinic who recommended CC as well. They reckon 4 or 5 nights should crack it, but not to be surprised if he cries for up to 3 hours... great. I'm knackered already, I think we'll start at the weekend when DP can help... (he'd better!)
