Getting ds to go to sleep on his own

Ds is 3. I’ve decided tonight that I’m going to start getting him to go to sleep on his own, I lay with him every night and I want my evenings back!
What’s the best way to do it? Should I stay near the door so he knows I’m close or go downstairs?
I’m so nervous about this ds is very clingy to me so I don’t think it’s going to be easy!

Following as my 2 year old is exactly the same - my partner or I have to lie next to her for her till to fall asleep. DS2 is 10 weeks & we are keen for her to be more independent at bedtime!

Try the disappearing chair idea.

So start with sitting on floor next to child, patting their back, and when they take to that sit there with hand on back not moving, then sit there next to, when happy move further and further away and then shhhh outside the door!!!

Takes a while but worked for us!

Ooh I like that idea thank you. I’ll give that a try.
