2 year old waking when he can't find his toys

Hi. Our two year old insists on going to bed with an assortment of cuddly toys and a couple of books. Recently he's started to wake once or twice at night because he's lost his favourites and in the dark can't find them. Any ideas on how to deal with this? He's in a cot at the momnent and we plan on moving him to a bed ina week or two. It's unrealisitic to expect him to go without his toys when he moves to the "big bed" isn't it? We'll get rid of the books in the bed at this stage, they're a comfort, it's not as if he can read them or even look at the pictures at this time of year.

We're having to go into him at leat twice over night at the moment and we'd like to get him out of the habit. Is simply ignoring him the best option?

Thanks all for your help.

I'd put him to bed with 1 toy and say no more. Ignore but go in every 10-15 mins (or when he sounds distressed) and lie him back down and say shh sleep. Bit like getting rid of a dummy really.

Rod for your own back and all that.........{sorry, bet that's been said already!}

Have to agree with lovemygirls I'm afraid.... My DS only has one fav' toy at night - and we still end up getting up in the night when Lalooo has fallen out of bed.

My question is - at what age can you realistically expect them to pick up their own blardy toys?!

Dd2 kept dropping her dummy so I got this toy with a velcro strap and secured another on there incase - it worked!

I did try to take the dummy away but she then played up at nap time which was much worse so i let her have the dummyback.......I know i will live to regret that. Who said having kids was easy? It's a good job they're so cute!
