Doesn't really work like that.

I read somewhere that from a purely metabolic point of view, babies should be able to go a 6 hr stretch within 24 hrs from about 11 lb.

But whether they do is another point entirely.

Why are you asking??

If only it were that simple - my two didn't sleep through the night until 10 and 8 months respectively. Weight had nothing to do with it, not when you get tiny babies of 6 weeks sleeping through.

I suppose it might have something to do with their weight gain levelling off and them not needing as much but I have no idea.

I dont think weight/age has much to do with it - it depends on the individual baby. My dd slept through at 5 1/2 months (dont know what weight she was but she was lighter than ds). Ds slept through at 8 months and he was at least 21lbs by that stage and was on solids.

And they can fool you too - dd slept thru the night at 4 weeks, then stopped at 6 weeks (and it was a loooong while til she did again!)
All babies are different and will do it when they are ready - age and weight not a great deal to do with it - go with the flow

If you are feeling knackered and heavily pregnant then wondering when your baby will sleep through is a BAD thing!!! You can be fairly sure that it won't be in the first couple of weeks, pretty sure that it may be nearer 6 months, you could even be looking at over a year!! Whatever the case you will be amazed and quite cross that the very first time your baby sleeps through you lie awake worrying and going to check it's breathing at 3am and then just when you get used to a 6 hour stretch it'll start teething or some other excuse to wake up every hour !!!!

Sleep now woman!!!

Hey Jackstini - how goes it with you? Pop by the March 06 thread and say hi...

I'm off to bed as my two are shattered after a bonfire so should go through until at least 5am.

yeah my little bundle of joy started sleeping thru at 6 weeks but since about 9 months has been up A LOT in the night, teething etc.. so when they do start sleeping thru, don't get too excited.. sorry!
