I know I know... calpol is not a sedative BUT

My lovely little lady sleeps through the night if she has a dose at bedtime. Otherwise she wakes 2 hourly!

She has two teeth already and behaves as though she has more on the way... (chews everything in sight, drooling, rosy cheeks).

BUT she's been doing this for weeks! I don't feel overly comfortable giving her calpol each night indefinitely when I can't see teeth coming through as it could be ages! If she's in pain of course I want to help her but she seems fine in the day 🤷‍♀️?

My question is should I just give it if it appears to help, or should I speak to GP about other possible reasons for pain? I'm FTM so new to it all. Any advice is welcome, I've had some really great support and help here in the past

No, you shouldn't give calpol every night to help her sleep. Pretty sure it says on the bottle not to sure it for more than 3 days in a row without consulting a doctor.

Maybe I should add that she self settles well and naps are not a problem in the same way...

You definitely shouldn't be giving your baby drugs to get to sleep every night.
Babies do wake during the night and as parents we have to deal with it, I would definitely try to speak to your GP regarding this rather than carry on giving your baby medication just so your sleep isn't broken.

The reason it says not to give for more than a few days is so that you are not masking a potentially serious illness.
You don't mention your child's age, but if it is teething causing them to wake then it would make sense that calpol helps.
You can't just give it every night though!
For teething pain, Anbesol liquid (not gel) is brilliant.

Sorry it wasn't clear from my first message, we are only giving as a one off definitely not every night! And I would certainly never give her medicine for my own benefit!! I have just noticed that on those nights she has had it she sleeps very well.

On reflection the question was probably always going to cause some controversy!

Could try a placebo, she's only just 5 months though so unlikely she's able to make the connection?

Sounds like it's teething pain. I had similar when DD1 was teething. Lo and behold a couple of weeks later a new tooth popped out.

If she wasn't in discomfort the calpol wouldn't help.
