My ds2 (14 months) has never been the best sleeper (unlike his older siblings!!) but had a terrible dose of gastroenteritis the other week and has become a nightmare! he previously settled himself to sleep although woke early but when he was poorly we were giving him milk/water in the night and he's quite grown to liking that! and he's totally stoppped settling himself to sleep!
But he's been back to nursery this week - they say he's absolutely no problem at goin to sleep there - doesnt even take his dummy! just goes straight to sleep- no crying!

so hence my OP - they are so clever!!! he knows that i'm soft and will probably cuddle him to sleep in the end! but tonight is the test - i've put him in the cot and left him to settle! he's not hysterical but lots of loud shouty crying!! feel i have to do something but need some support from MN!
