Moving baby to own room

At what age did you move your baby out of your room and into their own?

DS is 6.5 months and rapidly outgrowing his next2me. We've just moved house and his room is all set up and good to go with his cot bed but I don't know if it's too soon.

He's a great sleeper, 11/11.5hrs straight through each night. I think my hesitance is more to do with my comfort levels.

What are you feeling uncomfortable about OP? Him being in a different room to you?

We moved DD just shy of six months I think but she woke up multiple times in the night anyway so I had ample opportunity to spend time with her at night 🤣

3 months with my eldest.

10 months with my youngest. We waited with my youngest because he was sharing a room with his brother.

um.....6 weeks.

DS is one on Sunday and still in with me. I made a bigger next to me out of a cot bed and we all sleep soundly

DD was in with me until 18m and then went into her own room with no issues, still sleeps 12 hours a night age 6

Just over 6 months for same reasons as you (grew out of next to me).

Was not ready (myself) to do it earlier than that, but had to spend a lot of time in her room due to teething, regressions etc. Some nights even ended up in my bed

This being said she has settled fairly quickly, for the first few days we did naps only and then progressed to nights.

I would recommend a good baby monitor so you can keep an eye. It really helped with my anxiety.

Just after 6 months with our first. Wasn't worried at all she had always been a great sleeper.

Second time I think it was maybe a bit longer but not much. I couldn't wait to get rid of the next to me bed that blocked me from getting in and out of bed easily and we cld actually put the telly on at night. She used to make noise and keep us awake too! She wasn't a great sleeper either and basically started off in her own room and then came in with us about 2/3am. Instead of getting better it got worse and she started coming in with us earlier and earlier. However by about 9/10 months she started sleeping more in her own bed and we realised she wasn't that comfy in with us and neither were we. She only comes in now for a wee cuddle and bit of comfort, she won't settle properly in our bed so I put her back when she's calmed down.

A year. Mainly due to laziness and the need to convert my husband's study not a nursery. I'm having number 2 now. She will be going in to her own room a 6 months if or before.

@SaveWaterDrinkGin yeah, just that really. I'm worried about SIDS (although there are no risk factors in our house). I would have a monitor by my bed but just worry that I won't hear him or wake up if he needs me.

I think it was about 8 weeks, which isn't following the guidance but we were happy with decision. I wasn't really a fan of DD being in our room anyway

@Akasia thank you! It's definitely my anxiety that's stopping me. However, I know I need to bite the bullet.

3 months here, I hated sharing with a kiddo and she was sleeping through anyway. I believe by 6 months SIDS is vanishingly rare. I don’t think there is any safety reason not to move them by that age, if you’re feeling really anxious about it, exploring where that’s coming from and resolving would probably be more beneficial than keeping DS with you long term.

@The3Bs you’ll hear him! I used to wake up slightly before my DD cried! It’s like a parents spidey sense. It’s just a big change but you’ll probably get used to it very quickly. The SIDS risk is massively lowered after six months which is why that’s the advised minimum time to move them. You can always give it a go and move him back if you really can’t cope. Sounds like you’ve got an amazing sleeper anyway! Good luck x

About 7 months, it's a bit wierd to begin with. My LO is not a great sleeper so she ends up in bed with me at some point. But I promise, you will hear them!
