ARRGGH! Why is my 4 month old waking every hour!!??

Was never the best sleeper - started off waking two or three times at night, then every 3 hours or so, and for the last week or two, every hour!

A quick feed usually settles him pretty quickly.. but is this normal and how can I get him to sleep through the night (or at least a few hours at a time!)?

If you think all his needs are being met (ie not hungry, cold, unwell, got wind) I would suggest this is a phase which he will grow out of in a few weeks.

Is 4 months a prime time for a growth spurt? If so, that may be another reason.

I'm sure it will pass soon xx

thanks - am sure is a growth spurt but all of my friends' babies are sleeping through the night! Maybe they're late developers

Although Gina Ford (not that I follow her) says babies should be sleeping through the night at 4 months.

naturopath, i'm having similar probs with my dd. Up until about 17 weeks she was waking pretty religiuosl;y for a feed at 3am. Suddenly that feed disappeared and she was sleeping through 7-7, albeit with a dream feed at 10, hurrray i thought!! but in the last couple of weeks that has all gone to pot - shes suddenly very grumbly and a bit shouty every couple of hours. Have spent too long worrying about ..is it too hot, too cold, needs a dummy, has wind, needs a feed and its none of those so have now come to the conclusion that she's fine and it'll pass!
Sorry dont have any words of wisdom for you but you're nto alone!

thanks Orchide and Sleepycat - was beginning to have usual guilt/bad mother feelings again.

Definately a growth spurt, DS was like this for about a week before normal business was resumed! This site has some info on growth spurts and when they are likely to happen.
