Early Morning Waking in 8 month old

DS wakes at 5am every morning. He doesn't seem hungry, just awake and ready for the day, but
then he is tired about 8 or 9 again.
There is no noise or light at that time of day so I don't think he is being disturbed.
Is it a phase or is there anything I can do? Most of the the threads I have looked at are older children waking. Anyone else have this experience with an 8 month old?

I think it's perfectly normal. I think mine used to get up eat, play for bit and head back for a morning nap. I don't think the morning nap got dropped until they were close to 2 years old.

can you ignore him for a while until he starts to moan/cry? I wouldnt want to start my day at 5am and the longer you can ignore them for a bit then the more likely they are to go back to sleep for a while/amuse themselves while you get to stay in bed. I sometimes hear ds wake and chatter/moan, even cry for a few minutes but I refuse to let him think that is when the day begins. Sometimes I go in and give him his taggy blanket and switch his music box on and then I go back to my bed. I only get him out the cot if it is somewhere between 6.30/7am which isnt exactly a lie in either!!

I am afraid it is normal for alot of children that age to wake up early. Both my daughters did, my youngest is 14mths and is only just going back to getting up at a decent time. To be honest there was nothing I could put my finger on to why they woke up. In the end I put it down to development, teething and sometimes a bit of a cold.
He will grow out of it. Back when I just had DD1 I would go back to bed as well - now I just sit quietly and sob into my cup of tea

My dd used to sleep until 7.00am-7.30am. Fantastic! Should have known not to get too excited about it though because for the past week it has been 5am on the dot. After reading the previous threads I see that it is quite normal -omg! I will go into her room when she wakes and make sure she is covered up, then I will leave her until 6.45am when I am ready to get up. Neither of us go back to sleep but she doesnt get upset - just seems to practise all the words she knows!- and I just stay in bed with my fingers crossed that she will drop off! 5am is far too early to start the day. She is 14months.
