Bedsharing - how do you keep baby safe from rolling off the bed?

Hi everyone! My 4 month old is massive! He’s in the 99.6th centile and is wearing 9-12 month clothes! He’s exclusively breastfed as well! He has now grown out of the next to me which I’m so sad about. I really want to sleep next to him for ease of feeding during the night. I’m just wondering what other bed sharing mums do to keep baby safe from rolling off the bed? Do you use bed guards? Are there other solutions I’ve not thought of? Thank you in advance :)

Bedguards can be useful but they do get in the way.

I used a cot sheet. Lay it sideways so it hangs off the edge of your bed. Put baby on it, then fold it over baby so both ends are together. You then lie on both ends. Baby can't fall out of bed and has easy access to boob.
It gave me the extra sleep I needed.

Wrapping the baby in a sheet and pinning it down sounds really dangerous.

We use an ikea cot (designed to have one side removed) like a next to me, fixed to the bed with the next to me straps. Luckily it’s the perfect height for our bed.

My 18 month old is in her cot, right next to my bed, but one side if open, does that make sense?
So it's a toddler bed/cot, but one side has no railings and that open side faces my side of the bed. It s very cosy.
So she just climbs in and out herself. But if she wants to be on the boob for a while she can, and I don't have to worry she will fall out. As she is old enough that I can sleep with her in the bed.

Could you just keep the next to me.. next to the bed, just to use as a barrier?
Or kick your husband out?

Yeah I'm pretty chilled out but wrapping a child in a sheet is definitely terrible advice and goes against guidelines...

We just had a Next To me and she laid between me and the next to me. I figured if she moved or rolled she would only go as far as the next to me.

Ive had to move the bed to the floor. The day after my 7 month went off the mattress head first so it was just in time. To be fair I did some how wake up and grab her before she did but half a second later and she wouldn't have been injured and gone a few inches to the ground.

I don't get how it works with the next to me stopping them exploring the whole bed and deciding to go off! My little girl keeps trying to go all over the place.

Not dangerous at all.
The baby wasn't wrapped up tight. Cot sheets are big. His arms were out, he had room to move, he just couldn't roll out of bed. I didn't have room for a cot next to my bed.

Our cot was the exact same height as the bed. I took one side off, and put the cot up to the wall, bed up to the cot.

You can use the next to me as a barrier until he gets really mobile. Just put him in between you and the next to me then he'll either just roll in to you or the crib

I had a super king sized bed. DD in a baby sleeping bag and I would hold the bottom. Stuck a pool noodle under the sheet at the edge away from me when she got really mobile.

My bedside cot was the best thing o ever bought for dd2. Wish I'd had one for dd1.

I coslept in the spare bedroom / DDs bedroom only. Our house was tiny and she outgrew her Moses basket in a few weeks. Her cot was in the bedroom beside ours as no space in ours plus 4 ft from my head but I just slept in there from the midnight feed onwards.
We had an IKEA beddinge sofabed out as a full 2m double and the mattress was rock hard so I used a summer weight duvet, wore thick fleecy pjs and put DD in a sleeping bag beside me.

I turn my bed so that one of the long sides is right up against the wall and sleep on the 'outside' side of the bed

There is also a bedguard on my partner's side - but I read they aren't recommended. My baby wouldn't roll that far- but partner says makes him feel secure...!

I used to use a lindam bed guard. Our mattress was firm so there was no gaps between the guard and the mattress- not even when I was on the bed. This was before baby was mobile. (I slept with ds1 until he was 2 so no idea how I kept him getting off the bed....baby sleeping bag I guess).
