At what age can I reasonably expect my DS to loose his night (3am feed)?

My DS is 6 months, weaned at 5 1/2 months, and has a 10pm feed.

No answer Thomas, but interested in this myself - DS is 7.5mo, has bedtime feed as well as 12.30ish and 3ish (and sometimes a snack at 5.30!!!)

Piffle · 11/10/2007 20:09

you are lucky my 6 mth old is currently 2 hrly at night

gegs73 · 11/10/2007 20:13

My 5MO has just started cutting out his middle of the night feed. Feed him at 10.15pm then he feeds again around 7am. Before he stopped he woke up at 3/4 or 5am and had a feed but wasn't overly interested. In the end rather than crying for his food, he was talking IYSWIM which lasted about 10 mins then he went back to sleep. 2 hours Piffle! that is hard work, hope it gets easier for you all!!! (DS will prob wake 3 times tonight now I have jinxed his sleep on here)

Piffle · 11/10/2007 20:16

has onyl been for two nights as he is teething
I do late night feed at 11 and he normally wakes once at 3 or 4 and the goes through til 7.30 he is brestfed and takes less than 8 mins to feed so I barely notice...
I think waking once at this age is great and I feel lucky it is not more!

TrinityRhino · 11/10/2007 20:17

gecko still wakes every 2 hours
both my other girls did too
I must be doing something wrong

gegs73 · 11/10/2007 20:22

Nothing wrong at all! It is luck of the draw big time. A friend who had a baby same time as me, was sleeping through from about 8 weeks! She was fully breast fed on demand etc etc, she didn't leave her to cry or anything like that and she just decided at 8 weeks to sleep through. At first from about 10/11 til 6am, then by about 12 weeks was going from 7 til 7.

Piffle once a night at this age is great for sure. I hear so many stories about babies waking all the time. My SIL little girl did it until she was sbout 3!

SuperMonkey · 11/10/2007 20:24

My DS is exactly the same as gegs73 - 5mo and for the last 2 weeks has gone from 10:30pm to 7:00am. If he does wake in the night he chats to the wallpaper for 10 minutes then goes back to sleep. He is breastfed but I started to wean him at about 19 weeks.

gillhowe · 11/10/2007 20:30

DS stopped wanting night feeds by about 8 months, still a dreadful sleeper though

Lio · 11/10/2007 20:31

dd usually has a night feed. she is 14m

97PercentGingerbread · 11/10/2007 20:33

Trinity, my dd is still 2 hourly. Always has been, probably always will be. Tis the luck of the draw.

flowerybeanbag · 11/10/2007 20:36

ooh sorry. I came on here hoping to encourage someone whose DS is younger than mine.

My DS went through the night from 3 months I'm afraid, sorry. Feed at 10.15-10.30ish, then at 7am. I do consider myself lucky though.

gingerninja · 11/10/2007 21:21

My DD was about 9 months when stopped night feeds. I wasn't happy dropping them until weaning was properly established (It's no guarantee of a full night sleep though)

Tamdin · 11/10/2007 21:27

piffle (once is great at 6 months imo)and trinity my ds woke 2 hourly for at least 6 months too. he's now only waking once (at 20 months) and has water (No milk). Really do believe sleep like everything is individual to the child.

Thomas ds had milk in the night until fairly recently so you're well on top of things!

Daisymum07 · 11/10/2007 21:37

My DD is nearly 7mths and normally feeds at 10pmish, and then was waking once around 1-2am but now seems to want another feed 4-5am grrr but after reading those other poor folks with 2hr feeds think maybe its not too bad, just desparate for some chunkier sleep.... I still BFing and my friend also BF and her baby was doing 8hrs at 7weeks straight through so guess its just the babe?

Ah so it should be expected, this 3 am malarkey. Thank you.

Just had some postnatal girls around and of course everyones baby is sleeping through, and have been for ages.

Although I'm naturally delighted for them, I just wanted to check the natural flow.

DS is BF BTW, and wakes for a quick 5-10 mon feed, thne straight back down. Guess I'm lucky.

Yes you are Don't believe everything people tell you either, it's funny how in a month or two you might here them saying something completely different.

ToadieG1 · 12/10/2007 09:24

Ds2 is 9 months and still wakes 4-5 times a night for milk. Has done since he was born but more at first. He also gets up in the evening for milk a lot of the time as well.
