What's a reasonable time for a 6 year old to go to bed at?

We start putting our dd aged 6 to bed just after 7. By the time we've washed, brushed hair and read a book etc its just after 8pm.
The problem is she's staying awake till 9pm before going to sleep. She's just started year 1 and I do feel she needs her rest but I feel a bit mean leaving her lying there, she's not even yawning.
I do value the child free time from 8pm but I wondered what time other 6 year olds go to bed at?
What do other mn do if their child is not sleepy?

7 ish but it's probably more like 7.30 these days (sometimes 7.45) what with reading and baths and stories.

There's a bit of chat and giggling but they have to be settling down by then, usually asleep by 8.

9 yr old goes to bed then too, but she is allowed to read for a bit which she enjoys.

I agree Hula, we don't do nightly baths either now. It's such a palavar and I don't think they need one every day at this age.

I try to get DD (aged 6) settled by 730pm, which includes bath/hair (if having one, prob twice a week), all stories and cuddles etc. Sometimes she'll snuggle down straight away and other times she'll play up a bit and play in her bed with some cuddly toys until I catch her and settle her again. At the weekends, if she's not ready to sleep, she's allowed to read. I'm not keen on her playing at bedtime as I think it fires up their energy and so are less likely to sleep - and there's no way she's ever having a tv in her room, I'd rather she entertained herself than watched the box. One tv in a house is enough IMHO.

I start the bedtime routine at 6pm for my 5 yo and my 3 yo. By the time its 6 30 they are usually in nightclothes and ready to go up at any time. They get the option to go up early if they are tired, but my cut off time is 7.30. If they want a story it starts by 7.15 at the latest so they can be in bed by half past. Tbh my girls are both so knackered by the end of the day (one in yr 1 and one in nursery) they are happy to go and settle straight off to sleep. I consider myself very lucky.

lights out at 8.30 pm for my 6 and 8 yr olds. I have no chance of getting 6 yr old to bed earlier than his bro.

DS 6.3, is asleep by 8. It seems to take an hour though, as the bath is run at 7pm. Tedious!
