Too soon to transition to one nap?

Hi all!

Just looking for some advice. My son was one at the end of July and is currently on two naps a day at 9 and 1 pm. He tends to sleep through but is a super early riser - always before 6 and three times a week before 5 😱

Friends are saying I should transition him to one nap a day, and his nursery have said most of the children in his group are on one nap.

Is it too young? I'm worried that if he's still waking as early as 4 it could be up to 8 hours before he has a nap! Or would the one nap help with him sleeping later in the morning?

Just wondering if anyone else has been in this position and what sort of routines other babies are on?

Friends have said the super early wake is a sign to transition to one nap but I don't want to get into an overtired cycle and wreck all his sleep!!

Having a morning nap too long can be a factor to exasperate very early wake ups from the overnight sleep.

Not too young to transition to 1-nap days. Dont do it all in one go though, take a good month or two to make the change.

My son moved to one nap at 11 months and immediately sleep improved overnight. He still wakes up generally once rather than two or three times as was the case when he was on two naps

DS turned one yesterday and I'd say we have 3 or 4 days a week when he has one nap and have done for the last month or so. He is also quite an early riser generally but I'm hoping that will settle as he gets used to one nap a day.

The nursery wouldnt lie about other kids his age having one nap. Why not try it and see if it helps with the early mornings?

Mine moved to one nap around 1 from 2 at similar times to yours. Was a little lead by him though as some days he wouldn’t nap in the morning and then fell asleep about 11, so we moved to moving to one about 12pm. It was easier if we went out in the morning to distract him
