Baby routine sleep out of whack suddenly

Hi guys,

First time mum and first time messaging, hoping to find some answers. My baby girl is 7 months old now and since around 3 months she’s been a decent sleeper. I wait till shes tired then put her in her cot awake with a dummy and she usually lies there and falls asleep within 5 mins or so, this has been the case for both day naps and bed time. Recently she’s fallen ill and her routine went out the window understandably, she’s all better now but it’s taking forever to put her to sleep she’s trying to climb out of the cot or keeps trying to play I’m having to almost hold her in my arms to get her to sleep. Is this normal after being unwell, is this sleep regression? Anyway I can help her get back into her normal routine?

It is normal to need a reset to get routine back to normal after an illness. Given her age, could also be that she's ready for a routine (in terms of nap times) change and that her old routine isn't suitable anymore.

When does she usually nap and for how long?

Thank you for your reply, she usually has 2 naps during the day varying between min 1hour max 2 hours. She’s usually awake for around 3 hours between each nap.

Oh my god I’m going through the same thing with my 7.5 m/o. He is suddenly waking at 5:30 since we stayed overnight in a caravan in Skegness.... and it’s put our routine out of whack and I just can’t get back into our usual groove... the early wake means he needs to be put down for his nap earlier than usual and he is starting to do 30 min naps again after months of 1-2 hour naps.... I feel like I’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards I’m totally not used to it anymore lol. Maybe we need a new routine but he still seems tired and ready for sleep after his usual 2-2.5 hour wake time... 🥴

No advice I'm afraid but we're in the same boat. 7.5 months and she's gone from sleeping through to taking 90 minutes+ to put down at bedtime and multiple wake ups throughout the night. I'm shattered and already feeling anxious about the night ahead.

I’ve tried to implement a routine, but I find everytime I put her in her cot she tries to climb out or plays even though she’s so tired she’s fighting it. I also think she has seperation anxiety. I’m finding once she’s asleep for bed she maybe only wakes once but getting her to sleep is taking more than a hour when it used to take 10 mins tops before. Any ideas on how long this lasts?
