Help - words of advice needed - my 20 mo is driving me crazy...

Ok, bit long but bear with me....

Dd is 20 mo - and generally been a good sleeper (apart from usual teething/times of illness etc) and is able to settle herself to sleep at night and if she wakes during the night.

Over the past 2 months she has increasingly got worse at staying asleep through the night. She might sleep through twice a week, and on the other nights she wakes (about midnight) and her crying starts quite gentle and builds into screaming. If I leave her it just gets worse, and if I go to her she goes hysterical and throws herself about the room wanting to go downstairs.

I have tried taking her downstairs and then bringing her back - she screams when I put her back in her cot

I have tried taking her into bed with me and dh - she plays and chats and wriggles for hours before falling asleep shortly before dh or I have to get up for work

I have tried CC - she cried last night for over 1.5 hours while I went in every 10 mins before I gave up and took her into bed with me.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SittingBull - Thanks, it's good to know I'm not alone!

To answer your questions..yes we do have a good bedtime routine & she has a cup of water in her cot (no books - will try that tomorrow!)

I don't want her to get used to sleeping with us - I bring her into our bed on occasions when she's ill or teething, but it's important to me that she sleeps in her own room at night. I will try and be strong from tonight if she wakes and not take her in with me..fingers crossed it really is only a few days!
