16 month old suddenly waking at 4:45

Hi. DS has always been a reasonably good sleeper and was sleeping on average until about 7am which was amazing, he would sometimes wake in the night but would resettle quickly. Suddenly for the last week he’s waking up at 4:45-5am. He wakes upset, but then will happily go back in his cot but doesn’t actually go back to sleep. He will just lie there for a while babbling until he eventually starts shouting.
I haven’t changed his routine - he goes to bed around 7pm and he has one afternoon nap straight after his lunch around 12-2. I have tried both making the nap shorter/longer and it hasn’t made a difference. He self settles on his own and has for a while. He does seem to be teething, it hurts him on and off throughout the day and he’s got quite bad nappy rash which isn’t usual for him. Does this just sound like teething? Anyone have any advice on anything I could try/change? Someone suggested a gro clock to me but he’s too young and wouldn’t understand this, he also has a development delay. Thank you.

All of my four children got nappy rash when teething. Sure sight, I'd say.
