Cutting nap length success stories?!

My LO is 21mo and currently naps in the day at about 12ish I usually wake her after 2 hours. I’ve found she wakes around 6. I know this isn’t awful but just so I can get ready for work etc (I’m a single parent) it would be good if she could sleep closer to 6.30/7 as the mornings are full on! She won’t play by herself etc or watch tv for me to get ready. I’m wondering if to achieve this I need to cut her day sleep to 1.5 hours. I’m just scared she will be overtired and then wake even earlier. Anyone had success doing this?

What time is bedtime?

SarahDay1990 · 30/07/2020 08:59

She’s usually asleep by 7.30/8 - usually nearer 8. So I can’t complain but I would take a later bedtime if it meant a slightly later wake time just to make things a little easier r

Anyone? The wake time has been 5.30 the last couple of days

We did this recently with our same age child. Cut down nap to 1.5 hours and it helped extend morning wake-up. Also, try extending wake-up cot play time - I take in some toys/book whilst shhhing and leave him to play for an extra 15 mins or so. Good luck.

I don't think napping makes any difference to wake time IME. My youngest had given up on napping completely at your DC age.

She’s always been a LO who needs average amount of sleep and definitely still needs a day time nap. I’ll try cutting it what would be a good time 12.30-2 or 1-2:30? I just don’t want her getting overtired

Ours eats at 12, and we put down around 12.45 so he is asleep by 1 and we wake at 2.30. bedtime putdown time is 7 (bath time begins at 6.30pm) and he is usually asleep by 7.30/7.45pm. He wakes anytime between 6.30 - 8, but average is 7am. If that helps. Good luck.

@SarahDay1990 I wouldn't be afraid to cut the nap. Even to just 45 minutes. Try it. See if she will sleep later. If she's going to bed as you say around 7.30pm to 6.30am that's 11 hours which is good.

My DD naps 45 mins and sleeps 7pm to 7.30am.
