I have a three year old and a six month old. "D"P usually sits with thee year old until he falls asleep at around 7:30, I look after baby. Baby goes to bed around 9:00

DP has left, three year old is wide awake, will not stay in his room alone and baby is crying. Can anyone help please Sad

Hi,
Different circumstances but sometimes. I do bedtime on my own a few times a week.
We do bath and bed. Chuck them both in the bath, take the little one out and sort into jammies while older one splashes about. Take older one out and jammies on while little one plays in a safe spot.
Then downstairs, 3yo plays or 'reads' herself - if that's not working I put something chilled on the telly, while I feed and put the wee one down.

Just to say, there are often nights that this just does not work. They are both extremely strong willed!

Have you anyone nearby (grandparents/good friend) who can come and help you out?

Sorry things are shit.

That's my routine, for yourcurrent situation, can you all cuddle on the sofa? Cuddle wee one to sleep while 3yo cuddles in?

It’s not as bad as you think. You’ll cope. It’s hot so little point forcing sleep and getting everyone in a tizz. Pick up baby for a cuddle. Take three year old downstairs and read stories. Make it special time for tonight. Lots of stories until it’s darker and cooler. Nice mug of tea for you, glass of water for three year old. Snuggle on sofa. It will calm. They’ll get sleepy if you take stress out of it.

Thank you so much. Amazingly, I think my eldest is asleep...I'm too scared to check in case I wake him! You are right about the heat. I just need to calm down, it's all been a bit stressful the last couple of days to say the least. I will think about implementing a new routine tomorrow. Thanks again, Mumsnet never fails
