3 month old grunting and kicking from 3am

Hi. My little one is just coming up to 3 months. Over the past week or so he’s been unsettled from around 3/4am after his feed. He makes grunting and straining noises, whimpers, and his arms and legs flail and kick. It’s continuous and doesn’t stop. I’ve been giving in and bringing him into bed which soothes him a bit and we can get a little rest. Tonight my partner and I agreed to try out sleep training, to see if he can settle. It’s been an hour and he’s still going! I’m soothing him now and again, he might have a minute of stillness but then it starts again.

Is this a pointless exercise? How long (minutes/hours) should I do this for?

I’ve heard mixed things about sleep training at this age (some wouldn’t do it before 6 months) but I don’t know what the alternative is other than get up with him at 4am Confused He isn’t crying so maybe it’s not a sleep training issue? But if I have gotten up with him at 4/5am he’s happy as Larry!

He is on gaviscon infant for reflux and laxulose for slight constipation. He’s not crying and his eyes are closed, but he can’t be getting much rest!

I want to do what’s right for his immediate needs while not creating difficult sleeping habits, but just don’t know what to do. Any ideas would be really welcome!

Don’t get him up if he’s sleeping!

Is he dreaming?

(My DH still does all of that in the middle of the night 😂)

I'm not sure if he's dreaming, as it goes on for so long and when I do pick him up he's fine and smiling at me...
