10 month old waking frequently witsend

Our 10 month old usually has 1.5 hour nap and until recently was having a 2nd for 30-45 mins in the after noon. This past week he has refused the afternoon nap meaning he’s extra tired at bed time. He’s then started to wake up and think it’s play time, in the past 2 weeks he’s woke up at least 4 nights after going to bed. He’ll settled in my arms when I pick him up but He’s getting big now I find it hard to hold him for too long. Then if I try to put him down or go to our room he wakes up and thinks it’s time to play. The other night it was 12am he went back to sleep after waking up at half 9. Tonight he went to sleep at 6:30 and by 7:30 I’d been up to see him twice and ended up bringing him downstairs (not something I want to do) but don’t know what else to do. He can be asleep and then suddenly rolls over and stands up. We generally have tea around 5/5:30 bath is 6/6:30 then bed and have had a consistent bedtime routine with him from about 3 months old so he’s used to it. He’s an very needy baby I have tried controlled crying a few times but he gets so distressed and I’m not comfortable with it. He usually also ends up in bed with us when he wakes up as he won’t settled back down in his cot and we don’t mind co sleeping if it gets him to settle but at the moment its the constant waking before me and my partner even go to bed that’s getting to me. Does anyone have any advice I don’t know what else to do

No advice sadly but my 10mo DS is same. He’s never been the best sleeper but it’s horrendous at the moment. He’s struggling with separation anxiety, bedtime is taking over 30 minutes of him so upset. Last night he was up for an hour crying too and naps, well, they’ve fallen off a cliff. Exhausting!

@Laura1609 I know 😫 he had colic and silent reflux up until about 3 months old once we got past that stage I thought every month was getting better. He’s currently going through a leap but honestly before that he did end up in bed with us most nights. I guess it’s just a case of tying to keep a similar routine and hope it passes 🤷🏼‍♀️ I was meant to be going back to work after maternity leave and then the covid situation happened so I’m hoping we’ve resolved the issue before I go back. At least I know I’m not the only one going through the same thing.

Oh yeah, we dealt with colic until he was about 14 weeks too. Such a difficult time. I was convinced I had the world’s grumpiest baby! The suddenly he turned into a wonderful, giggly boy and he’s been great since.
From what I’ve read 10 months seems to be a really difficult time with sleep and all of their developments so like you said I’m trying to keep with our routine too and hope that it passes sooner rather than later.
Good luck with the return to work. I’m back in July and keeping my fingers crossed he’s treating me to more sleep by then!
